Job Description

Thrive Oldham are recruiting a Road Worker in the Bury area.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Excavation by hand or machine of existing footways and carriageways, kerbing and channels.
To operate, competently and safely, a range of plant and equipment associated with highway construction to include the use of:· Floor saws to saw through tarmac

· Masonry saws for cutting kerbs/concrete

· Brush cutters

· Pneumatic equipment to dig up roads and footpaths

· Compacting equipment

· Vibratory equipment

· Portable generators

· Cement mixers

3. To competently and safely operate ride on equipment to include:

· Dumpers

· Rollers

· Mini diggers

· Mini planer

· Surface removal planer

· Bob cats

4. To produce work to meet specification and quality standards to include:

· The need to work to precise levels

· Preparation, application, compaction and removal of soils, rocks and other materials

· Planning off existing tarmac

· Laying tarmac

· Surface dressing including hot materials

· Flag and block paving

· Laying kerb

· Construct dropped crossings

· Laying reinforced concrete

· Fencing

· Walling

· Excavating trenches to lay drains

· Rebuild collapsed roads and drains

· Constructing road surface drainage systems

· Diverting flood water

· Erection, fixing and/or dismantling of highways furniture and equipment

· Erect and maintain crash barriers

· Erect and maintain retaining walls

5. The signing, coning and protection of works in accordance with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act and New Roads and Street Works Act, with particular regard to the safety of work colleagues and the travelling public.

6. To complete relevant documentation, read and interpret plans and instructions as required.

7. To work with information technology and associated systems.

8. To comply with the Council's relevant health and safety legislation, policies and procedures in the performance of the duties of the post.

9. To work 100% of the time outdoors in all weather conditions and alongside live traffic, plant and equipment.

£12.00 Per hour

7.24 hours to work over 5 days
