Job Description

Psychology Graduates - Graduate Teaching Assistant

Sutton | September 2026 Start

Are you a Psychology Graduate looking to gain meaningful, hands-on experience in education before progressing into a career in educational psychology, child psychology, teaching, speech and language therapy, or mental health support?

We are currently recruiting Psychology Graduates for Graduate Teaching Assistant opportunities within supportive and high-performing secondary schools across Sutton and the wider West London area. These long-term roles provide an excellent platform to build practical experience working with young people while developing a deeper understanding of learning, behaviour, and child development in a real classroom environment.

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students both in and out of the classroom, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full academic potential. Schools are particularly keen to engage Psychology Graduates due to their strong understanding of cognition, motivation, behaviour, and the social factors that influence learning.

This is an ideal opportunity for graduates who are serious about building a long-term career in education or psychology and are seeking meaningful, school-based experience to support future training or postgraduate study.

The Role

  • Full-time Graduate Teaching Assistant position
  • Based in well-established secondary schools across Sutton
  • Supporting students across Key Stages 3-5
  • Providing 1:1 support and small group interventions
  • Assisting teachers with lesson delivery and classroom management
  • Supporting students with additional learning needs (SEND) where required
  • September 2026 start

The Ideal Candidate

  • A degree in Psychology or a closely related subject
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Genuine interest in education, child development, and behaviour
  • Ability to build positive and consistent relationships with young people
  • Proactive, reliable, and professional approach to supporting learning

Why This Role?

For Psychology Graduates, school-based experience offers invaluable insight into how children learn, develop, and respond within structured educational environments. This exposure is highly regarded by postgraduate programmes and future employers in educational psychology, child psychology, teaching, counselling, and wider child-focused professions.

Working as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Sutton will allow you to apply theoretical knowledge from your degree to real-world practice, while developing practical skills in behaviour support, intervention strategies, and student engagement.

Whether your ambition is to become an Educational Psychologist, Teacher, or pursue another child-centred profession, this Graduate Teaching Assistant role provides an excellent foundation for your career journey.

Application Process

If you are a motivated Psychology Graduate seeking valuable school-based experience in Sutton or West London, we would love to hear from you.
