The Corporate Affairs team supports and challenges Quilter to achieve our strategic vision and priorities by helping to build and maintain the trust, confidence, and respect of its stakeholders.

As Public Affairs Manager, you will play a central role in shaping Quilter's engagement with policymakers, trade bodies and other external influencers. Working as part of the Corporate Affairs team, you will help to develop and execute Quilter's public affairs strategy, ensuring the company's voice is heard on key policy issues affecting customers, advisers and the wider long-term savings market.

A key part of the role is to help strengthen Quilter's reputation as a customer champion, using evidence-based insights to advocate for policy outcomes that improve financial wellbeing, support good customer journeys and promote fairness across the industry.

You will monitor political and regulatory developments, provide strategic counsel to senior leaders, draft policy positions, and build strong relationships across Westminster, Whitehall, industry groups and relevant think tanks. You will also collaborate closely with colleagues across Communications, Proposition, Risk and the business to ensure a coordinated and evidence-based approach to external engagement.

This role is ideal for someone who is politically astute, highly organised, and confident operating in a fast-moving policy environment. It offers the opportunity to influence debates that matter for consumers and to help ensure Quilter's perspective is represented at the right time, with the right stakeholders, in the right way.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting development of public affairs strategy.
  • Operate in line with Quilter's Public Affairs Standard, ensuring all engagement is transparent, legitimate, consistent, and evidence-based.
  • Providing monitoring and analysis of public affairs and policy initiatives and disseminate to relevant stakeholders to enable the business to make better informed strategic decisions.
  • Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with policymakers, journalists and other influencers to proactively tell Quilter's story and maximise Quilter's influence on policy matters of importance to its customers and business.
  • Supporting relationships with key internal senior stakeholders.
  • Supporting on specific areas of Quilter's external communications plans, including writing press material, contributing to research and position papers.
  • Supporting other departments such as Risk, Marketing, Proposition and Internal Communications, as appropriate.
  • Supporting Quilter's External Communications Managers to oversee and mitigate any risks that could impact Quilter's reputation.
  • Managing incoming inquiries from external stakeholders, such as policymakers and journalists.
Consumer Duty
  • Ensure compliance with the Consumer Duty, where relevant, by grounding policy engagement in the best interests of retail customers.
Other
  • Maintain accurate records of external engagements, policy positions and interactions with government officials, parliamentarians and trade bodies.
  • Respect restrictions related to political activity, including rules pertaining to engagement with current or former politicians in line with sector norms and internal policy.
  • Act in line with Quilter's shareholder voting policy.
About You

You will thrive in this role if you:
  • Have strong experience in public affairs, policy, political research or a similar role - either in-house, in an agency, or within government or a political institution.
  • Are highly knowledgeable about UK politics, public policy development, and the regulatory landscape for financial services.
  • Can translate complex policy issues into clear, concise, commercially relevant insights for senior stakeholders.
  • Are confident building relationships with policymakers, civil servants, industry bodies, and internal colleagues at all levels.
  • Can develop evidence-based policy recommendations grounded in data, customer outcomes and Quilter's strategic priorities.
  • Are proactive, organised and capable of managing multiple issues simultaneously in a changing political environment.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce briefing notes, consultation responses, policy papers and stakeholder updates of a high standard.
  • Uphold the highest standards of integrity, judgement and professionalism in all external engagement.
