Job Description
We are working with a leading hedge who are looking to hire an Equity Analyst with a proven track record in identifying and executing short investment opportunities. This is a high-impact role within a dynamic investment team, focused on uncovering fundamental mispricing across European equities and generating differentiated short ideas.
The successful candidate will have experience analysing businesses from a short perspective, combining forensic accounting, rigorous fundamental analysis, and strong market intuition to identify deteriorating fundamentals, and overvalued companies.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate high-conviction short ideas across European listed equities
- Conduct deep fundamental analysis, including financial modelling, industry analysis, and management assessment
- Identify catalysts and develop detailed short theses supported by robust research
- Monitor existing positions and update investment cases as new information emerges
- Produce clear and concise investment reports and presentations for portfolio managers
- Stay on top of sector trends, market dislocations, and structural changes impacting European companies
Candidate Profile
- Extensive experience generating short ideas within a hedge fund
- Strong coverage of European equities across multiple sectors
- Proven ability to identify structural decline in business fundamentals, or overvaluation
- Highly commercial mindset with strong conviction and intellectual curiosity
- Advanced financial modelling capabilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, idea-driven investment environment
Role Requirements:
- ~3-5 years of relevant buy-side equity research experience
- A demonstrated track record in short selling European equities – candidates must have exposure to short selling
- Strong academic background in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related discipline
- A background in forensic accounting would be highly advantageous, but is not strictly required.
- CFA or equivalent qualification would be useful, but is not strictly required.
