Job Description

Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - SEND & SEMH

Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire
Full-Time | Temp to Perm | Secondary
Via Tradewind Recruitment

We are delighted to be recruiting a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for an exciting opportunity at a brand-new SEND school site in Irthlingborough, part of a highly regarded and supportive multi-academy trust specialising in SEND provision.

This role is ideal for an experienced HLTA who is passionate about making a genuine difference to the lives of young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The school supports secondary-aged pupils with a range of needs including autism, ADHD, communication difficulties, and behavioural challenges, and places a strong emphasis on relationships, regulation, and positive outcomes.

As a HLTA, you will play a key role in supporting learning both in and out of the classroom. Responsibilities will include delivering pre-planned lessons in the absence of the teacher, leading small group and 1:1 interventions, supporting pupils with emotional regulation, and working closely with teaching staff, therapists, and pastoral teams. You will also contribute to behaviour support strategies and help create a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where pupils can thrive.

This position is offered on a temp-to-perm basis, booked through Tradewind Recruitment, providing an excellent opportunity to join the school, build strong relationships, and transition into a permanent role within a growing trust.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • HLTA status or equivalent experience

  • Proven experience supporting SEND and/or SEMH pupils

  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

  • A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach

  • A genuine commitment to inclusive education

In return, you'll be joining a forward-thinking trust, a brand-new school environment, and a team that truly values staff wellbeing and professional development.

Apply today through Tradewind Recruitment to be part of something special from the very beginning.
