Job Description

Are you an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant looking for your next challenge in a supportive and inspiring special school?

Do you have the skills and passion to help children with complex needs develop confidence, communication, and independence?

A special school in Lambeth is seeking a skilled and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team. The school supports pupils aged 2–11 with a range of needs including ASD, severe and profound learning difficulties, and complex medical needs.

The setting offers a highly individualised and creative curriculum designed to nurture each child’s unique strengths and potential. Specialist facilities include a hydrotherapy pool, sensory rooms, soft play area, and outdoor learning spaces, enabling pupils to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced SEND professional who can bring initiative, creativity, and resilience to their role—supporting pupils’ learning, communication, and emotional development in a meaningful way.

Person Specification

  • Significant experience working with children with SEND, ideally in a special school or specialist setting
  • Strong understanding of strategies for supporting pupils with ASD, SLD, PMLD, and communication needs
  • Confident in using a range of communication systems (e.g., PECS, Makaton, AAC)
  • Skilled in supporting pupils with personal care, sensory, and behavioural needs
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Calm, proactive, and reflective approach to supporting learning and wellbeing

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the class teacher to plan and deliver engaging, multi-sensory learning experiences
  • Provide targeted one-to-one and small group support to help pupils achieve their individual learning goals
  • Implement therapy and support programmes under the guidance of teachers and therapists
  • Promote pupils’ independence, communication, and emotional regulation
  • Contribute to creating a safe, positive, and nurturing learning environment

This position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to make a genuine difference in the lives of children with special educational needs, within a highly supportive and well-resourced Lambeth school community.
