Job Description

Key Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with a range of additional learning needs, including autism spectrum conditions, learning difficulties, physical disabilities, and social, emotional, and mental health needs

  • Work with individuals or small groups to reinforce learning activities planned by the teacher

  • Assist pupils with personal care where required (training provided)

  • Help implement Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and behaviour support strategies

  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social interaction

  • Support pupils' communication, independence, and life skills

  • Prepare learning materials and assist with classroom organisation

  • Observe, monitor, and record pupil progress, feeding back to teaching staff

  • Support pupils during transitions, break times, and off-site activities

  • Maintain a safe, caring, and inclusive environment at all times

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and external agencies

  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies at all times

Person SpecificationEssential Criteria
  • Experience of working with children or young people, ideally within an SEN setting

  • A caring, patient, and resilient approach

  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff

  • Good communication and teamwork skills

  • Willingness to support pupils with a variety of complex needs

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills (GCSEs or equivalent desirable)

  • Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities

  • Willingness to undertake training and professional developmen
