Job Description

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an Interim Head of Financial Planning and Analysis to join an organisation based in Northampton. This role offers you the chance to make a meaningful impact by leading financial planning and analysis activities that underpin strategic decision-making and operational sustainability.

As Interim Head of Financial Planning and Analysis, you will play a central role in driving forward the organisation's financial strategy by delivering high-quality analysis that informs key decisions. Your day-to-day activities will involve close collaboration with senior leaders to ensure that financial planning supports both immediate operational needs and long-term goals. You will foster an environment where analytical skills are continuously developed within your team, promoting knowledge sharing across departments. By leveraging cutting-edge financial systems and tools, you will provide actionable insights that help optimise resource allocation.

  • Lead the review and creation of management accounts to enable effective delivery of organisational strategy and maximise resource utilisation across all departments.
  • Utilise advanced financial systems and Power BI within the new CRM framework to ensure proactive financial performance management.
  • Identify, develop, and implement robust financial analysis processes that empower business leaders with evidence-based insights for managing projects and overall organisational performance.
  • Manage and enhance budgetary procedures as well as long-term financial planning in partnership with the Head of Strategy, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Support the development of analytical skills within the finance team and across the wider organisation by providing coaching, mentoring, and capacity-building initiatives.
  • Champion the advancement of financial business partnering skills throughout finance and other teams, establishing best practices for collaborative decision-making.
  • Review long-term strategic financial sustainability regularly, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and deliver maximum value for money across all operations.
  • Work closely with senior leadership including the Interim CFO and incoming COO to assess ongoing resourcing requirements for the finance function.
  • Collaborate with wider finance and strategy teams, maintaining open communication channels with dotted line management responsibilities over Finance Business Partners.
  • Undertake additional tasks relevant to the job purpose, always reflecting the organisation's mission and core values in every aspect of your work.

What you bring:

To excel as Interim Head of Financial Planning and Analysis, you will bring substantial experience from previous senior roles where you have led complex financial planning initiatives within not-for-profit environments. Your background should reflect deep expertise in developing analytical frameworks that drive evidence-based decision making at all levels. You will be adept at fostering collaborative relationships with stakeholders ranging from executive leaders to cross-functional teams. Your approach will be rooted in empathy, dependability, and a genuine desire to support growth-qualities that align perfectly with the organisation's values. In addition to technical proficiency with modern finance systems, your success will be defined by your ability to communicate clearly, nurture talent within your team, and maintain unwavering commitment to inclusivity throughout all aspects of your work.

  • Fully qualified Accountant status is essential for this position, demonstrating your technical proficiency in all aspects of financial management.
  • Extensive experience in senior-level financial planning and analysis roles within comparable not-for-profit organisations or similar sectors is required.
  • Proven ability to develop teams through coaching, mentoring, and capacity building initiatives that foster professional growth.
  • Demonstrable track record in business partnering with executive colleagues as well as engaging effectively with non-executives when necessary.
  • Exceptional skills in utilising financial systems alongside business intelligence tools like Power BI for data-driven decision making.
  • Ability to operate efficiently under pressure while finding pragmatic solutions that move organisations forward collaboratively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills enabling you to build trusted relationships across diverse teams within the organisation.
  • Experience in reviewing strategic financial sustainability plans with a focus on maximising value for money without compromising quality or service delivery.
  • Commitment to upholding organisational values including respect, transparency, inclusion, and ongoing improvement through open communication channels.
  • A passion for supporting development by sharing knowledge generously within both finance teams and wider organisational networks.
