A great opportunity has come up for an experienced Technical Manager to join a well-established engineering and manufacturing group in Sheffield. This role sits at the heart of technical support, metallurgy, quality and continuous improvement, working closely with teams across the business to keep standards high and customers supported.

What you’ll be doing as Technical Manager• Providing technical and metallurgical support to both internal teams and external customers
• Supporting the Quality Assurance Manager on day-to-day and strategic quality activity
• Leading root cause investigations for technical non-conformances
• Carrying out internal audits of the quality management system
• Reviewing quarantine areas and supporting disposition decisions
• Managing and reviewing global mill suppliers to ensure compliance and performance
• Supporting the Test Lab Manager, including internal audits to ISO 17025
• Witnessing forging orders as required
• Giving technical direction for heat treatment operations
• Preparing manufacturing plans for Sales when needed
• Working closely with Sales and Purchasing on any technical-related enquiries
• Leadership skills and the ability to mentor, support and challenge constructively
• Strong problem-solving abilities and a calm, methodical approach
• Confidence logging and reporting incidents and supporting continuous improvement
• Solid understanding of purchase specifications and customer requirements
• Comfortable working with Microsoft Word and internal systems
• A degree in metallurgy or a related discipline, or around five years’ relevant experience
• Knowledge of steel and nickel mill suppliers
• Familiarity with local forging suppliers
• Awareness of aerospace technical and quality requirements is an advantage
