The Company:
We are currently seeking proactive and reliable Stores Operatives to join our client’s Logistics team within the our regions Electricity DNO. This is a great opportunity for individuals with strong organisational and communication skills who thrive in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. This role has the potential to become permanent after a 12-week period for the right candidate.
This is not a standard warehouse role — the successful candidate will need to absorb and retain technical information quickly, work independently, and liaise effectively with internal departments. Full training will be provided.
You must be willing to adapt to different roles within the department, including picking, packing, receipting, stock control, and general warehouse duties. This is an exciting time to join our team as we are going through major change throughout the business and industry and there are many opportunities for the right candidate.
The Role:
- Picking, packing, and preparing stock (including electrical cables) for delivery to external and internal stakeholders.
- Receiving incoming goods, inspecting deliveries, and accurately recording items in the system.
- Safely handling, storing, and moving cable drums and materials in accordance to company procedure.
- Operating a counterbalance forklift (approximately 20% of the role).
- Using IT systems and inventory software to process receipts, track stock, and maintain accurate records.
- Conducting stock checks and maintaining stock accuracy.
- Ensuring the warehouse and yard remain organised, clean, and compliant with all Health & Safety requirements.
- Supporting wider warehouse and logistics functions as required.
- Willing to be flexible in working hours in weather events that could disrupt our electricity network.
The Person:
Essential:
- Valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck licence
- Full, clean UK manual driving licence
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety in the workplace
- Experience in a Stores or Warehouse role
- Comfortable using IT systems for inventory, receipting and reporting.
- Experience using Microsoft applications and Email.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Good customer-service mindset and ability to work with engineers and internal teams
- Ability to work outdoors and indoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to safely carry out manual handling tasks
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work under pressure and meet operational deadlines
- Willing to be flexible in working hours in weather events that could disrupt our electricity network.
- Willing to undergo Drug & Alcohol testing (industry requirement)
Desirable:
- Experience using Oracle, or other warehouse systems (WMS)
- Stocktaking experience
- Understanding of what a DNO/DSO is.
The Hours:
- Monday–Thursday: 07:30 – 16:30
- Friday: 07:30 – 15:30
