Senior Mechanical Engineer

£50,000 - £60,000

West Sussex

To work with our talented engineering team and help us design and construct some amazing systems, we are now in need of a Senior Mechanical Engineer.

Key Responsibilities:

* Creative design abilities for precision machinery and electro-mechanical systems.

* Serve as the technical lead for a small, multidisciplinary project design team, producing high-quality design solutions that adhere to schedule, budget, and quality standards.

* Oversee the development of designs in SolidWorks software utilising 3D CAD.

* Use conventional analysis and computer simulation to lead and collaborate with the team in doing classical engineering analysis on designs, including stress, fatigue, and vibration.

* Carry out laboratory testing to confirm that design outputs match design inputs.

* Take charge of organising and creating engineering reports to support failure analysis, new product designs, and any other official paperwork needed to meet client requirements.

* Work together with larger engineering groups to include drive, control, and electrical systems into equipment designs.

* Offer assistance to the field engineering, test, and production engineering teams. Provide quotes and bids to the sales teams to assist them.

* Assist project management and sales teams in providing design activity time estimates and monitoring advancement.

* Help and support the sales team in creating quotes, proposals, and other sales collateral.

* Assume the initiative and accountability for the prompt delivery of results within specified timeframes.

​Skills & Experience

Essential

* Expertise in creating intricate structures and mechanisms.

* Demonstrated experience designing systems from the ground up, starting from a specification and continuing through lead production.

* The capacity to evaluate loads on drive mechanisms and motor systems and provide solutions for them.

* Recognise how to apply procedures for casting, fabrication, moulding, and machining.

* Possess familiarity with a 3D CAD program, preferably SolidWorks.

* A thorough comprehension of the technical task being done and its associated activities.

* Capacity to oversee workload and design output while leading a project design team's technical efforts.

* Experience of working in the Defence or related sectors particularly in R&D and manufacturing, such as scientific equipment manufacturers, special purpose machine builders or high-end customisation companies.

Security Clearance Requirements:

* Due to the nature of our business, our staff need to be able to obtain UK Security Clearance as a mandated requirement (Sole British Nationality)
