We are now recruiting for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join us permanently located in the Aldermaston area.

Role:

Reporting to the project engineering manager the Lead Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the day to day management of discipline engineers and/or engineering design subcontractors. This will involve planning of work activities, estimates and schedules, and reporting of progress.

Perform a variety of engineering assignments in planning and overseeing research, development, design, construction, test, installation, operation, and maintenance of diverse mechanical structures, systems and components and act as a lead on design, analysis or review team on complex engineering assignments.

Performs a range of design development, analysis, or review tasks independently.

Responsible for complete designs, analyses, or design reviews.

Generate complete design specifications for complex projects.

*

Organize and supervise a group of employees or subcontracted engineers for a given project, contract or job with overall responsibility for cost, schedule, technical and employee performance.

May train other engineers on technical issues related to the research, design, development, testing and analysis of engineering assignments.

*

Coordinate and work closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.

Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.

Direct interface and liaison with internal and external customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.

Conduct site visits, investigations and analyse engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.

Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and procedures.

*

Prepare, deliver and submit technical papers and perform engineering studies.

*

Support development of technical proposal and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.

Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Education and Experience

Ideally degree educated in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant discipline

Chartered or working towards chartered Mechanical Engineer status

Proven experience leading a Design team

General mechanical handling and equipment experience

Experience with Nuclear glovebox design, modification and decommissioning an advantage

Experience of safety case justification

Sound knowledge of building regulations and planning submissions

Experience of CDM regulations

Area of oversight responsibility;
