Job Description

Are you an ex/retired services professional (police, fire, ambulance) looking for a new career?
Want a role that allows you to work within the community, no two days are the same and you go home knowing you have made a difference?

The Funeral Driver/Pallbearer is responsible for a number of day-to-day tasks that are vital to the smooth running of all of the funerals conducted. Our Client is a well respected business, with a great reputation. The business is growing and they would now like to add to their team of well trained and professional staff.

These include maintaining a clean fleet of vehicles, transporting flowers and other personal funeral items, preparing the trim and name plates for coffins, collecting and transferring deceased from nursing homes, hospitals and private dwellings and transferring cremated remains.
The most public of duties are carried out on the occasion of the funeral itself. The Funeral Service Operative has a number of critical duties on the day of the funeral, including driving as part of the cortège, helping to bear at the funeral and, of course, being available to our clients and ensuring that all the funeral directors requests are carried out as planned.

A full driving licence is therefore required for the role. Working hours 3 flexible days a week with on call.
The Funeral Driver / Pallbearer is a major part of the operational team, and one of the main responsibilities is making up the on-call team.

These on-call shifts are arranged on a fair rota basis currently a 1 in 5 and allow us to provide the high quality of service we are known for – at any time of the day or night. The Driver/Pallbearer will be required to attend to transfer a deceased from a private home or nursing home to Funeral Home premises at any time during the call out period.

The Driver/Pallbearer will be provided with a mobile phone and can be contacted at any time during out of hours. They will be expected to attend to perform their duties within a stated timescale. The salary is £12.35 per per hour with on call standby rate and call out payments.
