Job Title: Extrusion Engineer/Operator
Department: Extrusion / Engineering
Job Grade: 11
Reports to: Plant Manager, Production Supervisors, Engineering Supervisor.
Direct Reports: Production Supervisor
Job Purpose:
To work individually and within a team to operate & maintain all Extrusion equipment, working pro-actively to raise standards in the department.
To ensure product quality standards and maximum output are achieved, while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of the business.
To carry out induction & training programs for new starters and to monitor the skill levels and identify the training needs of Extrusion operators / technicians and carry out retraining of operators / technicians if required on new or existing equipment. To be able to transfer to the engineering department to be shift engineer when called to do so.
Working days and nights on a 4-shift pattern, we are looking for someone able to work effectively under pressure, who is looking for a challenge and can demonstrate a good degree of reliability, plus plenty of flexibility in relation to working hours/shifts.
Key responsibilities:
Work in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner whilst operating & maintaining relevant equipment and processes within Tensar Manufacturing Ltd.
Responsibility for the maintenance and performance of all extrusion process equipment, within scope of role.
Induction & training for all new and existing personnel to cover H&S systems, function of Extrusion processes, products produced and quality criteria.
Demonstrate and train personnel in the safe and correct method of operating all Extrusion process equipment using the relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs), including but not limited to fault finding.
Monitor and record the training of all new and current operators highlighting areas for improvement if required via assessment.
Work in a team to carry out risk assessments and or be involved in projects involving changes to process equipment or procedures.
Problem solving process/production problems, showcasing, and generating knowledge and skills in the area of process improvement, contributing to overall team performance.
Supporting engineering on scheduled maintenance and assisting in breakdowns on plant equipment at TML.
Any other duties/projects that are reasonable and within the skills and ability of the post holder.

Education/Qualifications/Skills/Abilities:
Full engineering apprenticeship and ideally an ONC minimum in plant engineering or equivalent.
Good all round engineering background, including knowledge and skill in pipefitting, welding oxy-acetylene, cutting, pneumatics, hydraulics, centre lathe, steam control / regulation.
Knowledge of the relevant health and safety and accident and incident procedures to ensure safe running of plant and machinery.
Understanding of Extrusion machinery and the skills and ability to pass this knowledge on to Extrusion operators / Technicians / Fitter Operators.
Experience of Polymer handling systems (Motan & K-Tron) would be advantageous
Knowledge and understanding of training systems and training delivery would be advantageous.
IT literacy and ability to input and retrieve information using basic Microsoft software to generate reports.
Excellent verbal and written English and good mathematical skills.
Knowledge of quality criteria for all Tensar products and to be familiar with the requirements of ISO9001:2015 systems within operations.
