Our new Chief Paramedic will have a challenging yet rewarding opportunity by reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer to be a visible, vibrant, and inspiring leader with a clear and compelling vision to develop the Trust’s future clinical strategy whilst ensuring our staff, patients and communities that we serve remain at the heart of what we do.

Working closely with the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Nursing Officer as part of a clinical triumvirate, you will be a core member of the clinical leadership team responsible for influencing, shaping and leading strategy, policy and clinical transformation both within South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) and as part of the wider regional and national health and social care systems.

You will play a pivotal role in the organisation, working across the Trust and wider health system to proactively identify opportunities for service transformation and clinical innovation. You will ensure appropriate strategies and plans to deliver are aligned to the Trust’s longer-term strategic ambitions.

Main duties of the job

As a Chief Paramedic for the Trust, you will effectively engage external partners and stakeholders in the long-term and mutual benefits of SCAS clinical transformation and strengthen our place within the wider system.

The post holder will ensure, working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, continued, improved clinical performance across all service areas of the Trust. Delivery of this will be via robust integrated strategic plans implemented by a network of clinical leaders, thereby offering organisational assurance to internal and external stakeholders.

The Chief Paramedic will also be accountable for effective provision of clinical standards across the organisation, leading through the senior team of clinicians.

You will have an important role in ensuring the effective, compassionate clinical leadership and delivery of emergency, urgent and planned care across all service areas within the organisation including our Emergency Operations Centres and Clinical Advisory Service.

You will lead by example, always modelling and upholding the right behaviours.

Main responsibilities

As the Chief Paramedic, you will be responsible for the following areas:

* Paramedic professional leadership

* Paramedic professional education

* Medicines/pharmacy

* Research and audit

* Paramedic advance and specialist practice

And you will contribute too:

* Patient Safety and PSIRF

* Clinical Effectiveness

* Quality Improvement

Main Duties of the role include, but are not limited to:

* Supporting the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to ensure the provision of safe clinical services which are patient centred, outcome focused and clinically effective.

* Set out a clear and compelling vision, and clinical services strategy with ambitious, motivating, strategic plans designed to clinically transform and enable future modernisation of the service.

* Actively engage across teams to ensure clinical strategy is well understood and embedded in practice.

* Be an effective and influential clinical leader, role modelling exemplar behaviour and creating a safe, compassionate and inclusive environment and culture where change, adaptation and service improvement is enthusiastically embraced at all level

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

* Registered Paramedic with current HCPC Registration

* Master’s degree level qualification in an advanced clinical field / clinical leadership or a post graduate qualification in a clinical or leadership discipline or significant, relevant board level demonstrable experience

* Evidence of recent, on–going personal development action, as well as activity and reflective practice

Knowledge

Essential criteria

* Recent experience of working for an Emergency Service or alongside Ambulance Services

* Evidence of audit and evaluation / benchmarking of clinical services

* Demonstrable successful, experience and achievement as a very senior leader at, or near, Board Director level in a similarly complex organisation or system

* Experience of successfully implementing change programmes across a large footprint

* Significant personal and clinical credibility with all clinical professionals in leading and managing clinical transformation in a rapidly changing environment

* Track record of building high performing, cohesive teams that deliver high standards, collaborative working and inspiring others to achieve excellence

* Evidence of personal contribution as a strong team player, facilitating effective team-working to delivery outcomes
