Job Description

Our team are now looking for a Monitoring and Observability Engineer to join their team, You will be part of a team of Monitoring and Observability Engineers running a responsive and proactive 24x7 NOC function (Role is in hours only), constantly improving and reviewing monitoring to reduce preventable incidents and escalating alerts raised where required, assigning to the appropriate teams.
Reporting directly to the Monitoring and Observability Manager as part of a newly created team, you will be key to the running of a fast-paced monitoring and incident process troubleshooting and resolving incidents as quickly as possible with minimal downtime and impact.
Key Responsibilities
Configure and manage the monitoring of all the Data Centres, Cloud Infrastructure, Networking, associated systems and applications across the ParentPay Group.
Working in partnership with the Infrastructure Ops, Infrastructure Engineering, IT support, Application Ops, and Development teams to ensure all monitored systems are kept up to date and monitored as requested.
Work with the Service Ops Delivery teams to ensure that Monitoring and alerting is represented from the outset of any new system or service.
Create dashboards, reports and alerts for improved visibility of monitored systems by the whole business.
Maintain the monitoring software continually working on keeping alerts, modules and custom alerting up to date.
Analyse events, perform troubleshooting and incident response on the related systems communicating with relevant teams or third parties responsible for managing the systems for quick alert resolution.
Monitor the ParentPay Group custom applications in detail. Ensuring critical stats are provided to the wider business as required
Working with the rest of the Service Ops team tracking and documenting all alerts and resolutions in detail through a designated ITSM system.
Adhere to all internal processes (change/incident/problem etc) as set out by the IT Service Manager.
Regularly review our monitoring systems and attend training courses offered by our monitoring partners.
Maintain and create detailed documentation of monitoring systems and processes.
Work with the wider Service Ops team to feed in data for capacity management processes.
Automate where possible fixes and workarounds reducing human input.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Configuration of on premise monitoring and alerting of cloud solutions.
Experience with multiple monitoring and alerting systems including Logic Monitor, PRTG, Solarwinds, Pager duty or similar.
Experience configuring and monitoring networking systems via SSH, SNMP v2 and v3
Experience working with custom/bespoke software applications.
Experience with Windows Server systems and WMI monitoring.
Excellent communication Skills.
Ability to manage and prioritise your own workloads
