About the Role
In the wake of recent strategic transformations and our relentless growth, we're on the hunt for a seasoned Bid Manager to join our dynamic Bid Management Function. This role is your ticket to a journey of career advancement in an environment primed for your personal and professional growth. With hybrid work arrangements, including remote work and visits to our Gloucestershire offices and customer sites, flexibility and innovation are at the heart of our ethos.
Reporting directly to the Business Development (BD) & Commercial Director, we're in search of a Bid Management virtuoso who possesses an innate understanding of the best practices governing Bid Management and Governance. Your role is to adeptly navigate the entire lifecycle of bids, from inception to fruition.
As a Bid Manager, Your Duties Encompass:
Empowerment: You'll deftly oversee the day-to-day operations, including nurturing the Bid Team and the associated line management obligations in our newly forged Bid Function.
Strategic Leadership: Take charge of designing, implementing, and completely owning the management of bids/proposals in harmony with our company's governance standards, including Delegation of Authority (DOA) approvals, and associated commercial/financial considerations.
Process Perfection: Spearhead the refinement and implementation of our business-winning processes, tailored to cater to Major Bids and Proposals. Our foundations are rooted in Shipley principles, and you'll be responsible for evolving them to align with our strategic goals.
Project Mastery: Develop and execute bid/capture plans and schedules for each bid/proposal, identifying resource requirements, and then meticulously oversee the entire bid/proposal process. You'll also ensure that critical gate reviews occur promptly.
Team Leadership: Lead your dedicated bid/proposal team, consisting of multi-disciplinary experts. Your role requires close collaboration with various functions across the business, including the Heads of Capabilities, Commercial, Finance, HR, and the broader Senior Leadership Team, where it is essential.
CRM Wizardry: Maintain and manage our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, ensuring data accuracy and supporting the BD & Commercial Director in tracking pipeline opportunities and forecasts.
Strategic Insight: Provide indispensable support to the BD & Commercial Director by conducting Defence market analysis, delivering market landscapes, competitor intelligence, and the development, implementation, and execution of strategic campaign plans.
Mobility: Be ready to travel when necessary to support your Bid Management activities. This may encompass attending vital bid reviews and participating in wider team/customer meetings as required.
About You
Qualifications: We're looking for a candidate with a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, ideally in an Engineering-related field or a closely related discipline.
Track Record: Demonstrable success in developing, managing, and winning bids and proposals, using processes like the Shipley Process, or an equivalent methodology.
Industry Insight: Prior experience within the military/defence and aerospace sector is a significant advantage.
Time Management: You have a talent for prioritizing tasks and meeting conflicting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Detail-Oriented: You are highly articulate with exceptional attention to detail, capable of identifying errors and omissions.
Collaborative Spirit: While you can work autonomously, you are also a team player who thrives in a collective environment.
Tech Savvy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office is a given for you.
Initiative: A confident self-starter who isn't afraid to take the lead.
Ready to Roll: Willingness to travel to support the evolving needs of the business as and when required.
Company Salary & Benefits
Attractive Compensation: A salary in the range of £55,000 to £75,000, dependent on your experience.
Generous Leave: Enjoy 25 days of annual leave in addition to public holidays.
Performance Bonus: Benefit from a discretionary annual bonus scheme that rewards excellence.
Retirement Plan: Participate in our company pension scheme.
Wellbeing Support: Access Health Assured, a workplace wellbeing service.
Perks Galore: Membership of Perkbox offers discounts on a variety of products, from shopping to cinema tickets, mobile phones, and more.
Green Commute: Make use of the Electric Car Scheme and Cycle to Work Scheme to support your eco-friendly lifestyle.

Security Check: Candidates will undergo an internal BPSS check before gaining site access.
Security Clearance: The successful candidate must either possess a current SC clearance or be prepared and eligible to undergo a Security Clearance check (SC level) upon commencing their role with the company.
