Senior Track Engineer – North West and Central Renewals

Murphy are enhancing our track delivery capability and are interested to hear from candidates able to confidently take on a Senior Track Engineer role, with development opportunities towards Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) – Construction for Track.

This role would cover projects across our Northwest and Central region, with time split between active project sites and our offices located at Cannock and Golborne.

The Senior Track Engineer role will support the Discipline Lead for Track and will play a pivotal part in the successful development and implementation of the portfolio of renewals works, including bridge, stations, drainage, and earthworks projects. During the development stage you will have input and the opportunity to influence design organisations to develop designs that can be built efficiently and safely. During the construction phases you will assist and oversee the engineering and construction teams, ensuring the works are built right first time.
 
What you will be doing:

Occasional liaison with designers to ensure designs are efficient and safe to build, install, test, and commission. Occasional contact with the client to progressively assure designs, including participation in IDC/IDRs
Ensure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works. Formally request any missing information in sufficient time to allow the programme to proceed without delay,
Input into the Project Execution Plan to document the planned construction methodologies
Input to detailed construction methodologies produced by the project teams e.g. WPP / TBS / RA’s
Reviewing the construction programmes for completeness and integration with other disciplines
Preparing Inspection and Test Plan documents for the track elements of projects as required.
Carry out inspections in accordance with the Inspection and Test Plan in a timely manner.
Communicate with foremen and supervisors to ensure full understanding of the proposed track construction methodology and design.
Resolving technical problems at all levels and following up with TQs.
Accurate setting out of track works and dimensional control, for example, ballast levels, ballast ramp extents, weld positions and tamping limits.
The production of survey information, labelled productivity photos and redline drawings for the completion of the as-built records.
Managing hire and off hire of surveying equipment as required.
Ensuring Critical Rail Temperatures and Track Monitoring is recorded and reported, as required.
Ensuring Track Handback Engineers complete Form A-G accurately.
Assist team members CEM / QS / PM as required with engineering input
Attend site as required to liaise with Site Managers, Engineers, and sub-contractors
Managing ESRs and TSRs
Maintain good working relations with client / designer / team, together with our supply chain.
Keep a full and accurate daily site diary, including any changes, design variations, subcontractors’ attendance, and records of work-related discussions with client / designer / project team.

Who we are looking for:

A proactive Senior Track Engineer, who can coordinate and resolve challenges between interfacing disciplines and specialist contractors. 
Working knowledge of NR Standards.
Experience in the construction of Plain Line, Switches & Crossings, Track Bed and Formation, Track Drainage and UTXs.
PTS Qualified, CSCS Card (relevant type),
Willing to work overtime during nights and weekends.
Full UK driving license.
Experience carrying out track monitoring and producing Track Monitoring Plans (Desirable).
Track Handback Engineer (Desirable).
Critical Rail Temperature (CRT) examiner/management competence (Desirable).
Previous CRE Construction experience or ability to be mentored into the role (Desirable).
Confident working with AutoCAD software producing survey, setting out and as-built drawings (Desirable).
HNC or HND (Desirable)
