Job Description

Our client has been building their strong reputation within mechanical and electrical installations nationally for over 40 years with a healthy turn-over exceeding £75m. Operating across three divisions they deliver a full range of services from concept and design through to construction, maintenance and security across a range of projects which include retail, storage, industrial, commercial office, healthcare, education and residential.

As part of their continued success in winning new work, which has seen them secure their target turnover for 2024, this project is a new-build healthcare scheme near Camberley. This project forms part of a phased construction programme, consisting of a new wing containing a diagnostics centre and intensive care unit with an M&E value of £10m (circa £6m Mech and £4m Elec). The scope of work covers what is typically associated with a hospital project and includes, lighting, small power, fire alarms, security, ventilation, heating & cooling, medical gasses and ancillary items. With the project now live, our client is looking to add an M&E Quantity Surveyor to team and is willing to consider either a middleweight or senior level candidate.

Key M&E Quantity Surveyor responsibilities:

* Manage feasibility studies to estimate materials, time and labour costs

* Single point of contact to fully understand project’s commercial needs, evaluating different options to fulfil them and propose the best solutions in a reasonable, professional way

* Manage cost throughout the project stages through to financial close and during construction

* Assist when required with regards to cost evaluation, procurement and variation advice

* Accurately report and monitor, to ensure accurate monthly forecasting and cost reporting to the Commercial Manager

* Handle procurement of sub-contractor packages and present their selection for approval of said packages by Commercial Manager

* Review all project variations and project claims

* Minimise the cost and enhance value for money for projects, whilst still achieving the required standards and quality

* Monitor all project costs and cashflow including preliminaries through the approval, sign off of orders and the reviewing of invoices applicable to the project

* Prepare monthly client applications for payments and follow through to receipt of client certificate, in line with the works completed on site and cash flow position

* Assess Sub-contractors’ application for payments, to ensure a fair valuation in line with the progress on site and with their contracts

Due to the complex nature of hospital schemes, previous experience on healthcare projects will be deemed an advantage, although not essential. This is a hybrid position and will consist of a combination of being site, home and office based. Due to project location in Camberley and office location in Epsom, this would only suit candidates able to travel to both
