Job Description

Job Title: Interim Clerk of Works

Location: Merseyside, UK

Duration: Interim, 3-6 months

Pay: Inside IR35 – Negotiable DOE

As the Interim Clerk of Works, you will be responsible for monitoring the activities of the Council's contractors engaged in construction projects across various sectors, including education, corporate, and leisure. Your role will involve ensuring that construction work meets specified standards and adheres to relevant regulations. You will maintain accurate records of on-site activities and collaborate closely with the commercial design and project management team to deliver successful outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor the work of contractors engaged in construction projects across education, corporate, and leisure sectors, ensuring compliance with project specifications, drawings, and quality standards.
Conduct regular inspections of construction sites to verify that workmanship, materials, and methods are in accordance with contractual requirements and industry best practices.
Document and report any deviations from project plans or specifications, as well as any quality or safety concerns, to the project management team.
Maintain detailed records of on-site activities, including progress reports, inspection reports, and non-conformance reports.
Collaborate closely with the commercial design and project management team to resolve any issues or discrepancies identified during site inspections.

Requirements

Previous experience as a Clerk of Works or similar role, preferably within a local authority or construction consultancy.
Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and techniques, with a focus on education, corporate, and leisure projects.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with contractors, project managers, and other stakeholders.
Sound understanding of relevant regulations, standards, and codes of practice related to construction projects.
Relevant qualifications in construction management, building surveying, or a related field would be advantageous.
