Location: Stoneleigh, Warwickshire with agile working
Working Hours: 35 hours per week

Purpose of the role & how you will contribute:

The Dairy Policy Adviser is a strong champion for our dairy farming members. They advise the National Dairy Board on policy matters and help the team develop effective lobbying strategies. At the same time, the role involves monitoring political and technical developments, supporting member and public communications, and helping to generate high profile news stories.

What you’ll bring:

To succeed in this position, you will need to be outgoing and strategically minded with the ability to quickly pick up technical and policy developments and adapt to a varied and, at times, fast-paced working environment. You must be able to work well within a team, and alongside the NFU National Dairy Board, whilst also possessing the ability and the drive to work unsupervised.

Candidates will have a strong knowledge of the UK agricultural sector, and/or a sound background in policy development and government relations, as well as a good knowledge of the dairy sector. Alongside a degree, or the equivalent experience, you will possess an excellent standard of written and verbal communication skills, be an assured public presenter and have proven experience in negotiation and/or lobbying. You will need to be well organised, able to prioritise workloads and to think creatively to solve problems and overcome policy challenges. As part of this role, training and development support will be available.

Policy Directorate

The Food, Farming & Environment Team sits within the Policy Directorate and takes an active role in developing and influencing the policies that benefit farming businesses across the UK. This means keeping up to date with and responding to national and international developments, engaging with and advising NFU members, and actioning effective lobbying strategies on their behalf.

It’s exciting, complex work, covering every area of farming and dealing with a range of stakeholders, from government ministers, civil servants and the media, to local NFU branches, food processors and retailers. The sheer variety of our work means you can be involved in a wide range of projects from initial research to policy delivery. Our collaborative approach means you’ll find plenty of opportunities to build your knowledge – it’s up to you to take them.
