What you’ll be doing

At Martin-Baker our purpose is to save lives and as the Health and Safety Lead in this unique and challenging environment, you’ll assist and advise on the day to day implementation of the health and safety management system procedures, related to Seat Test activities. Taking a pragmatic approach based on your extensive health and safety knowledge and experience, you’ll be fully involved with the testing of ejection seats by developing highly effective risk assessments, ensuring safe systems of work and team competencies, maintaining health and safety documentation and processes in line with company procedures, standards and legislation.

The role has varied responsibilities, supporting a talented team of Seat Test professionals and you’ll continually offer guidance with colleagues, contractors and clients involved with Seat Test experiences facilitated at Martin-Baker. You’ll have strong interpersonal skills, offering a flexible approach when interacting with stakeholders. Part of the role includes leading with KPIs (key performance indicators) and reporting activities. The risk management culture is very positive at Martin-Baker, you’ll continue delivering through collaborative ways of working when engaging with colleagues relating to health and safety components. The Seat Test team has a busy and successful remit, you’ll enjoy working within robust environments that focus with high professional standards.

Characteristics & Skills

* Seasoned engineering background with experience of working in military aviation and/or research and development (R&D) environments would be highly advantageous.

* Extensive knowledge and interpretation of health and safety regulations is required with experience of fire and explosive legislation being desirable.

* Proven experience of developing health and safety management systems

* Extensive experience of developing bespoke risk assessment and safe systems of work.

* A minimum of NEBOSH General Certificate but Diploma accreditation would be advantageous.

* A minimum of Certified Membership of IOSH (CertIOSH) is required with Chartered Membership (CMIOSH) being advantages.

* Health, safety and fire audit accreditations including ROSPA QSA standards are desirable.

* Have an keen eye for detail and getting things right.

* Know how to listen and communicate effectively with others.
