Job Description

Creating new functionality for the 5G network core

If you’ve ever wished for a role where you could be left in peace to develop high quality code, then this may be that opportunity!

This forward-thinking company develops technology for 5G networks. Their high quality connectivity solutions provide robust and secure communication services for mission-critical end applications.

Working remotely as part of an established friendly Agile team, you will contribute to the development of new features and functionality for the 5G Network Core. The company pride themselves on the excellence of their codebase, and their culture is geared towards this objective. They place an emphasis on creating well designed, implemented, and tested software. They cultivate new ideas and ways of doing things, encourage refactoring in order to avoid technical debt, and understand the value that technical staff deliver for the company.

This is a fully remote position with monthly office meetings, so might not suit everyone. Excellent C++ skills and good mathematical aptitude will be essential, as will an understanding of NGAP protocol or protocols of comparable complexity (S1AP etc.). You must be someone who is happy to drill into the details of substantial specification documents and implement solutions with a high level of attention to detail.

You will need:

• A strong academic background with a 1st or 2.1 in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or similarly applicable subject together with strong supporting A-level (or equivalent) grades. Further relevant qualifications and knowledge of cryptographic maths would be valued
• Demonstrably excellent coding skills in modern C++ versions, and familiarity with developing software under Linux
• Experience with software development best practice: Agile, Scrum, code reviews, automated test, version control, bug tracking, and static analysis tools. Knowledge of UML or experience with Kubernetes would be beneficial
• The ability to attend meetings in Cambridge from time to time is essential – so you must be based, and have full existing right to work in the UK

This is a great opportunity to join a friendly supportive team focussed on delivering high quality engineering with the minimum of administrative overhead. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

Keywords: C++, 5G, Core Network, NGAP, 5G Application Interface, Linux, Remote
