Job Description

Senior Test Engineer

Our client, who are a specialist automotive company based in Bedford, are looking for a Senior Test Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis. This role will be working on vehicle-based military tests alongside the customer to execute tests in a variety of military vehicles trials.

The role will provide technical support to technicians and stakeholders with involvement in the whole process including; price compilation, work planning, procedure/legislation research, issue of test instructions and data collection requirements, presentation of results and reporting across a wide range of projects, from smaller-scale, short-term projects to multi-year, high value programmes.

Roles and Responsibilities

Working within a team of engineers and technicians to co-ordinate and supervise test activity, creating and updating project timing plans to ensure deadlines are met for various activities.
Liaison with the customer and test authorities to ensure test plans meet their specific requirements
Liaison with other departments and onsite facilities used by customer i.e. Workshops, Offices, and Tracks etc.
Liaison with off-site test facilities to plan and organise time and resources to fulfil the requirements of each test program to maintain and develop test schedules.
Fully understand the customer requirements of test programs and communicate the requirements clearly to other staff.
Report test results and anomalies to the stakeholders in a neat and timely manner.
Develop/specify and continuously improve existing processes, procedures, equipment or facilities.
Provide off-site support when required
Specify data capture needs in order to meet customer requirements.
Develop test scenarios with customer and other departments
Make engineering judgements regarding the performance of the customer test vehicles and quality of test data.
Write test reports, report results and conclusions customers and support them in investigation work to resolve any questions
Develop safety cases and prepare risk assessments
Conduct analysis and validate data and lead investigations into sources of errors, resolve technical issues.
Develop test capabilities within the military vehicle subject area.
Design new test techniques and put forward novel solutions to existing problems.
Be responsible for maintaining a working environment in accordance with health and safety standards.Qualifications

Experience

Essential

Vehicle testing
General data acquisition understanding and ability
Knowledge of sensor types and applications
Knowledge of electronics and circuitry
Knowledge of vehicle mechanical systemsDesirable

Knowledge of the standards and regulations required to support the military vehicle approval process
Project management of various vehicle system requirement and compliance programmes
Comparative vehicle assessment and benchmarking
Experience writing system requirements for vehicles
Understanding of military projects
Vehicle network and comms systems (i.e. CAN).Qualifications

Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant Engineering discipline
Chartered engineer status or working towards (preferred)
Full UK Drivers licence - additional categories (HGV, PSV desirable).Essential requirements:

Willing to undergo a Criminal Disclosure check.
Full UK driving licenceOwing to the sensitive nature of the works involved in these specialist defence projects, candidates will be required to hold, or be able to hold, valid security clearance (SC) and in order to do so will need to be:

British National (residency for the last 5 years)
Hold a UK PassportOther information:

Travel Required: Travel as required within the UK and mainland Europe to visit stakeholders and support testing.
