About the role:

Astute's Nuclear team is partnering with an international company that operates across highly regulated sectors including Civil Nuclear and has a strong presence and history of delivery at nuclear sites in the UK and internationally. They are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to be responsible for the delivery of design and engineering to meet the requirements technical specification. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the supervision of junior engineers, engineering resource management input, recruitment and tendering support.

This integral position comes with a salary of up to £53,500 with a company who are committed to the development of its people within a culture of safety, innovation, and excellence.

Responsibilities and duties:
Reporting to the Principal Engineer or the Project Engineering Manager you will:
Develop designs to satisfy technical specification
Potentially lead teams for the full delivery lifecycle, including Design, Specification, Procurement, Supply/Manufacture Liaison, Installation, Acceptance Testing, Commissioning and Operator Training in Nuclear Engineering Projects
Produce and approve deliverables throughout the delivery process
Contribute to design and safety reviews
Ensure quality and timely delivery of design documentation throughout all phases of the design process
Comply with safety legislation and statutory regulations
Develop cost effective technical solutions
Help to develop staff and manage contactors
Provide technical consultancy

Professional qualifications:
We are looking for someone with the following:
Degree qualified in a relevant technical / engineering discipline or demonstrable experience
Working towards, or already have, Chartership in a discipline specific engineering institution
Previous experience of working within the nuclear industry (this is desirable but not essential if transferrable skills are demonstrated),
Proven track record of successfully delivering design solutions within a highly regulated industry
Understanding of the requirements to support safety led designs and associated regulatory compliance
Good understanding of wider industry safety legislation and statutory regulations
Understanding of modern delivery practices, for example BIM compliance, RIBA/BSRIA design delivery stage gates, etc.
Experience of bid preparation would be desirable
Ideally with an understanding of Nuclear Industry Design Substantiation

Personal skills:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer role would suit someone who has:
Strong organisational and interpersonal skills,
Good level of commercial awareness,
Experience of leading design teams
Experience of managing sub-contracts
