Job Description
The Queen Alexandra Hospital Emergency Department is searching for a dynamic and experienced Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to join our dedicated team.
As a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse you will be supporting the ED Matrons in the delivery of a cost-effective service, collaborating with members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide quality and safe care for all patients. You will have governance responsibilities and work alongside Practice Education team to facilitate change in response to incidents and feedback to all levels.
You will provide a high standard of clinical leadership and expertise, while focusing on patient safety and experience. This will incorporate the development and supervision of all staff including the Emergency Department senior nursing team.

Responsibilities:
Lead and co-ordinate the nursing team, taking continuing responsibility on a 24 hours basis for the management and organisation of the clinical area.
Through effective leadership ensure the clinical team delivers a safe, effective, responsive, caring and well-led service where compassion is embedded and a positive patient experience is achieved.
Provide strong professional clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and act as a professional role model.
A highly skilled clinical expert with specialised knowledge in caring for patients and their carers
Promote operational leadership, together with the MDT, to provide and maintain flow thorough the department, facilitating patient safety
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
Current RN +/- RN, registration with NMC and any other relevant post registration qualifications
Post Registration competency pack in Emergency Medicine (Nursing)
Teaching Certificate / Mentorship course or evidence of teaching ability
Minimum of 2 years Emergency Nursing Experience at band 6 with evidence of CPD
Desirable
Degree in relevant field or evidence of working towards degree
ALS / ATLS / APLS / ILS / PILS
Management/ Leadership taught course or evidence of management experience
Evidence of teaching experience (formal/informal/nominated lead for skill ie: infection control/student coordinator/equipment/link nurse)
Experience with Individual Performance Review (IPR)
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
Management and Leadership skills and the ability to cope with and manage change
Organisational skills and the ability to lead a team with specialist knowledge and expertise
Articulate and knowledgeable in current health care issues and initiatives
Completion of suture/plaster/ splints packs or evidence of equivalent
Evidence of completion of triage/ Streaming pack and at least 12 18 month consolidation
Venepuncture/ Cannulation
Effective Communication skills between all levels of staff
Effectively use /able to teach Resus equipment
Desirable
ECG Interpretation
Advance Splint application (Thomas Splint)
IT Skills
