Sports Assistant September 2024, Hallfield School
10 - 12 month fixed term contract
Edgbaston, Birmingham
Actual Annual Salary: £19,841 per annum
(please note salary will increase in line with any National Living Wage increases)
40 hrs per week (with hours falling between 08:00am and 6:00pm and a 30 minute unpaid break). Flexibility to work occasional Saturdays to support fixtures would be required.
Working a total of 41 weeks per year (35 term time weeks plus 6 additional weeks to support with holiday club).
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Sports Assistant to provide support to the Director of Sports and Head of PE in the delivery of all aspects of the PE and games curriculum including assisting with lessons; clubs; practices and fixtures for Year 1 to 8 pupils.

The post would be particularly appropriate for a candidate who is contemplating a career in an education setting or as a sports coach.
Person Specification:
Essential:
An enthusiasm for sports with an encouraging and motivational approach to learning
Able to demonstrate a genuine passion for sports and sporting activities with an interest in sports coaching
Possess excellent communication skills with an ability to establish rapport with pupils, parents and colleagues
A flexible and supportive team member
In possession of a valid Paediatric First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain via the School
Good ICT skills
A willingness to support and engage in the whole life of the School
Desirable:
Possess a sports / sports coaching related qualification or be working towards one
Experience of working with children (even in a voluntary capacity) would be advantageous
Key Duties:
To work under the direction of the Director of Sport and Head of PE and follow their instruction in relation to assisting with the planning and delivery of games lessons and creating an engaging and positive sports environment.
To assist with lunchtime activities and accompany teaching staff on sportrelated trips and off-site fixtures, trips and activities.
To carry out administrative tasks including updating records and inputting data, photocopying and writing match reports.
To check and organise sports equipment and ensures the sports hall and outdoor areas are kept safe and tidy at all times.
Ensure the positive behaviour of pupils at all times, promote the good name of the school and act as a role model, setting high expectations in accordance with school policies and procedures.
To establish and promote positive productive relationships with pupils and promote the inclusion of all pupils.
To support the health, safety and welfare of the pupils in accordance with agreed school policies and procedures including the administration of medicines, providing first aid and supporting personal self-care reporting serious incidents to the School Nurse.
To support with the Aftercare and Holiday Club provisions as directed and school events when required.
