Job Description

We are currently seeking an Assistant Transport Manager to join our Transport team at our Daventry site.  As an Assistant Transport Manager you will be working closely with the Transport Manager, you will oversee the day to day operation of the site, ensuring KPIs are met, customer’s relationships are built and maintained and all personnel matters relating to driver controllers and clerks are managed.

Main Responsibilities & Objectives:

Minimise cost to the business by fully utilising all resources within the team.
Actively work as part of the site management team to achieve 90% performance as a minimum; assist the Transport Manager in providing root cause when the target is not reached
Continually monitor and update the GTS system ensuring delivery, cost and performance information is up to date
Support the Transport Manager in ensuring that customer relationships are built on integrity and professionalism
Deputise for the Transport Manager in their absence - attending morning meetings and acting as point of contact with the customer
Complete daily risk assessments of the site – yard and fuel checks
Managing repair programs for Microlise repair on site to make sure all depot equipment is traceable for 100% visibility
Monitor the fleet servicing to make sure the depot complies with servicing requirements
Dealing with defective equipment and gaining authorisation where needed for repairs to be carried out in a timely manner, so not to affect the depot trailer availability
Managing Absence, Payroll, Disciplinary / Grievance and Training and Development


As an Assistant Transport Manager you will possess the following skill, experiences and qualifications:

As the Assistant Transport manager you will be ambitious, forward thinking, innovative and naturally motivated. This is a great opportunity to showcase your skills and could lead to long term development opportunities.
You will ideally have at least 3 years’ experience in a similar role, either within a transport operation or planning and have a good working knowledge of WTD and EU driver hour regulations.
Although not essential, you will hold a CPC National qualification and have a nationally recognised Health & safety qualification, or be willing to work towards this.
You will have excellent IT skills and have the ability to build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
