Job Description

GBR Recruitment Limited are working exclusively with a long established & highly progressive Chilled Food Logistics company, recruiting for a highly experienced Transport Manager to work on days, Monday to Friday, to lead a small team of Transport Planners & Logistics support staff, ensuring the master transport schedule is delivered across the operation, 24/7 & 364 days a year.

You will be responsible for the effective daily running of the companies HGV fleet operations, approximately 50 - 70 tractor units / trailers (chilled / temperate controlled vehicles), working 5 days a week from 7am / 8am until finish.

Your key focus will be ensuring that the Transport Operation runs smoothly & strictly to the traffic plan, working in the most efficient effective manner, in terms of fuel efficient delivery routes, realistic achievable delivery times, achieving the companies commercial / financial targets (operating at the correct % / £ margins & profit levels) & in line with all legislative requirements.

You will be a Logistics / Haulage Guru, who has outstanding geographical knowledge, plus who can manage plans for 50-70 arctics UK wide, in a proactive & reactive manner, to achieve set KPI's.

You will also have extensive chilled food haulage experience (JIT to retail stores & DC's) & be a CPC qualified transport professional.

Transport Manager Duties:

* The Guru, responsible for successfully managing day to day Transport operations, achieving daily & weekly transport schedules / customer delivery & collection targets OTIF, successfully ensuring all transport runs are the most fuel efficient they can be & logistical achievable within expected time-frames to expected schedules.

* Execute the planned transport activities, to ensure top level customer service, to major food companies & other end users UK wide.

* Be proactive & also make reactive changes to the traffic plan / schedule, in response to operational issues & changes on the day of transporting goods to end users i.e., traffic jams, RTA’s, site access delays etc.

* Ensure the Transport Planners maximise route planning efficiencies to achieve set time slots for collections & deliveries, as well as back runs.

* Work hand in hand with the Transport Planners, to plan effectively & resolve any issues (RTA's, road closures etc.) which may adversely affect deliveries or collections in terms of agreed timings, to keep within the drivers WTD & to ensure all products, reach their end destination OTIF.

* Meet customer service levels / SLA’s, working to the highest quality standards, whist also maintaining a positive & strong working relationship with other internal departments & any 3rd party contractors.

* Always ensure effective professional internal & external communications (peers, customers, drivers, sub contractors etc.).

* Analyse & interpret / report to the MD the daily delivery / collection reports & daily revenue figures.

* Ensure all jobs are accurately entered onto the internal route / ERP planning system, in a timely manner allowing for daily closure & daily invoicing to be completed on time, for all transport service provisions.

* Manage the drivers’ hours, work performance levels / routes / drops, brief & debrief them daily.

* Manage the traffic daily staffing roster & weekend rota, to ensure the office is fully manned to meet the needs of the business 7 days a week 24/7 364 days.

* Ensure all HGV / Trailer maintenance & repairs are completed in a timely manner, inclusive of servicing, MOT's & daily defect reporting / VOR, keeping the trucks & trailers on the road as much as possible.

* Conduct temperature checks on all chilled / frozen trailers, ensuring they are at the appropriate setting.

* Coach, mentor & develop the Planners / other staff to be a real success, using your personal experience / knowledge.

Attributes:

* Extensive Transport Management / Traffic Planning experience, working with HGV’s (C&E plus Class 2) at a Transport Manager, Logistics Manager or comparable level

* Chilled / Frozen Transport experience at a Senior level (SMT / SLT level), with knowledge of temperature control measures / JIT produce

* Used to working as a 3PL / Haulage contractor, on behalf of major food retailers & food manufacturers, as well as food service companies.

* Exceptional UK wide transport planning / routing experience & super strong geographical knowledge

* Analytically minded, as well as highly proactive & highly reactive to challenges / foreseen obstacles

* Strong trailer fill planning skills, cubic fills (inc. backloads etc)

* Strong professional communicator at all levels.

* Used to working with varying customers with varying needs & expectations (SME's & Majors).

* Flexible with working rosters / hours (when needed to be to meet the needs of this 24/7 business)

* Can work in a small team of planners, as well as upon own initiative
