The Role & Responsibilities Promote Shawbrook values and good behaviour, fostering respect for other staff members, coherence within the Bank and a positive team spirit
Proactively seek development opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills to operate effectively in support of Enterprise’s target markets and products. Stay abreast of developments in products, policies and procedures with a particular focus on Asset Based Lending product suite. Proactively contribute to the review of relevant credit policies, templates and procedures.
To collaborate in financial analysis, structuring and recommendation of new business proposals, annual reviews and in-life variations such that they are within the Bank’s credit policy / appetite and reflect any lessons learned from defaults or in-life portfolio activities. This includes:
Act as the ‘voice of Credit’ within the origination teams and contribute to building suitable structures for new business opportunities.
Work within the 1LOD team to develop a clear view of the risks of a transaction and possible mitigants
Coordinate 1LOD Deal Forums and contribute to Divisional Deal Forums. Liaise with 2LOD Credit / Credit Approval Committee to articulate and justify 1LOD recommendations (or otherwise) and deal with questions as appropriate.
Consider solutions or alternative structures to issues raised which balance risk and commercial judgement such that proposals should be supportable within the Bank’s stated Credit appetites, policies and guidelines.
As appropriate, support negotiations in order to secure acceptance of a mutually acceptable solution. This may require on-site visits throughout the UK.
Give feedback, coaching/mentoring & training with the focus on continuously improving the quality of credit proposals from the team
Execution
Support the execution of legal documentation of sanctioned new business facilities as required via the use of third-party lawyers. To lead negotiation of terms and liaise with 2LOD as needed for sign-off of any changes to conditions of sanction or amendments to standard wordings which lead to a change in risk profile.
Support new business conversion through support of colleagues in satisfying conditions precedent, liaising with colleagues, prospects, professional advisors and other lenders as appropriate. This includes review of any due diligence information received to ensure compliance with any conditions of sanction but also identify additional risks which may become apparent.
Contribute to workflow monitoring and to any agreed team SLAs and ensure the senior management team is aware of any connected resourcing or capacity issues.
Support the team with the management of Portfolio clients through ad-hoc requests and collegiate Portfolio reviews. Assist Business Support as needed in the review of Watch clients.
Where appropriate, participate in material defaults and recoveries including disseminating ‘lessons learned’.
The Person A proven track record in risk management with at least 5-7 years’ experience in a corporate lending environment
A comprehensive understanding of SME lending products with a particular focus on Asset Backed Lending (e.g. Invoice Discounting / Stock funding lines)
A commercial awareness with the ability to quickly identify specific key factors across a range of facilities and funding structures
Experience of leading deal discussions with senior stakeholders
Knowledge of underlying Compliance/Regulatory issues and applying bank-wide policies to all transactions/projects being worked on
Prior experience of ‘back to back’, ‘asset finance’, ‘commercial property’ and ‘club/syndication’ facilities an advantage but not essential
A sound understanding of the legal aspects of corporate lending and its security
Financial literacy in interpreting all forms of financial statements and forecasts.
