Financial Controller

Royston (up 3 days per week from home)

£55,000-£65,000 per annum

We are currently working with a small / medium sized company (part of a larger Group) with offices in Royston and Derby, and who are currently looking for a confident and hands on Financial Controller to look after the accounting functions of two entities.

The Financial Controller will be responsible to the General Managers and Directors for the oversight and reporting of the financial operations of the company. 

The Financial Controller will oversee and guide the day to day activities of both companies ensuring that the finance operation is well organised, efficient and produces accurate financial and management accounts.  In addition, the Financial Controller will advise and partner with the company Directors and the General Managers to maintain and develop the company’s relationships with financial institutions, auditors and other professional bodies. 

Duties include:

  • Day to day management of the Finance Administrator
  • Preparation of budgets, forecasts and cash flows
  • Maintenance and internal auditing of financial ledgers and accounting processes
  • Preparation of Monthly P&L and Balance Sheet management accounts
  • Timely production of statutory and internal financial reports
  • Financial modelling and analysis
  • Cash management and treasury duties
  • Overseeing of the Payroll process
  • Oversight of company tax and VAT returns
  • Management of audit process
  • Oversee and ensure company insurances are renewed as necessary
  • Responsible for company treasury (cashflow, loan requirements etc)
  • Oversee stock control (physical and valuation)
  • Facilities management premises (maintenance, rent review etc)

This client is seeking to appoint an experienced and independent individual with the following:

  • Qualified CA/ACA/ACCA/CIMA (or equivalent) with previous financial control and management reporting experience
  • Experience of managing a small accounting team
  • Familiar with the needs of a new, growing business
  • Familiar with Sage accounting software (not essential)
  • Able to review controls and recommend changes as required
  • A confident self-starter, with the ability to operate flexibly in a dynamic environment
  • Good attention to detail, good judgement with logical decision making, and a hands-on approach
  • Computer literate with good excel skills and solid understanding of accounting software principles

This company is offering a flexible working arrangement, with the opportunity to work up to 3 days from home. The remaining two days will be spent in the office in Royston, and the post holder will be required to travel to Derby once per month.
