The Legal team are a high performing, high profile team and have worked hard to establish ourselves as trusted advisors to the Board and Management Team. We provide a balance of knowledge and constructive challenge to ensure quick and efficient information flows to and from decision-makers and to ensure that decisions are made in the best interests of the Group and its stakeholders, including its regulators.

We provide high quality, cost effective legal service whilst continuously seeking to improve competencies and appropriate processes, practices and policies.

We are proactive business partners and work closely with Product, Risk and Operations colleagues. We are a small but growing team and you would be joining us at an exciting time for us and the Bank. We are looking for a lawyer with appropriate experience moving from private practice or already in house who wants to join a bank that is well positioned for future growth and has an ambitious, customer focused team.

When the time is right, we would love to welcome you to our Manchester, Cardiff or Reading office. In the meantime you will be based remotely.

What would your day look like?

You will report into the Senior Counsel - Operations & Technology who will be your line manager and responsible for performance review meetings, 1-1s and development conversations.

  • Providing legal support and legal risk management for our Operational functions across our Bank
  • Working with the Operations teams to drive and enable transformation and innovation
  • Collaborating with our Procurement and Technology teams to manage our procurement and contract management priorities and implement best practice in the procurement space
  • Managing external law firms and the provision of specialist advice
  • Analysis, drafting and negotiation of complex, business critical commercial and technology agreements
  • Providing general legal advice and support on a range of issues including IP, Data Protection, IT litigation and TUPE
  • Advising on customer default, remediation and conduct issues
  • Interpreting, forecasting and advising on regulatory guidance and legislative change and providing training to the wider team
  • Creating templates, policies and procedures and identifying and actioning simplification opportunities to drive efficiency and customer outcomes
  • Supporting development through providing training on applicable topics and developing templates and checklists

What do we expect of you?

  • Experience of developing and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders by demonstrating sound judgement and strong influencing skills.
  • Experience in commercial contracting, technology, GDPR and IP
  • Proven ability to communicate in an open, clear, concise and well-structured way to share information and solutions.
  • Experience in working in a regulated business environment or relevant private practice experience
