As a result of continued growth, the business requires a Tax Manager to join our high performing finance team. Reporting directly to the Senior Financial Reporting Manager, the role will be hands on with a clear focus on tax compliance, reporting and tax risk issues affecting the business. In addition, the role will require a commercial mind set, to support the various tax activities and tax planning strategies for the Group.

You will be responsible for all aspects of tax compliance, payroll, VAT and tax reporting together with documenting the Group’s tax processes and ensuring these are applied accurately and consistently. You will be able to demonstrate where you have translated technical issues and clearly articulated the outcome. In addition you will be able to hit the ground running, work proactively with other departments and manage a qualified accountant to ensure all deadlines are met.

The role will give excellent exposure across the business with opportunities to gain broad experience, particularly in helping to develop the ongoing tax strategy of a listed business. Key responsibilities:

Tax compliance and reporting

  • Preparation of the corporation tax computations for the Group, working with our tax advisers to ensure all submissions are made on time
  • Calculation and payment of quarterly payments and group relief
  • Review the VAT returns and ensure any changes to the business or HMRC legislation has been included in the process
  • Ensure the timely submission of returns, payment of all taxes due, including POA
  • Preparation of P11ds and PSA applications for the Group
  • Administration and reporting for the Group’s share schemes
  • Submission of EBT trust tax return
  • Corresponding and liaising with HMRC to resolve queries
  • Support the preparation of the statutory accounts and half year review by preparing the tax notes, disclosures and supporting documentation
  • Oversee the monthly payroll processing for approximately 1,050 employees, ensuring accurate and appropriate treatment of salary related adjustments
  • Review relevant monthly balance sheet control accounts to ensure they are accurate
  • Working collaboratively with the wider finance team
  • Manage the workload of your team


  • Provide tax advice and technical support to the wider finance team
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and reporting requirements considering impact on Group
  • Documenting policies and procedures and identifying areas for improvement
  • Assist in the preparation of technical papers for product development and business change
  • Staff management & development, including appraisals, target setting and monitoring
  • Ad hoc tasks and project work as required to support the Senior Financial Reporting Manager and wider team


  • Qualified accountant (ACCA/ACA) with at least 2 years PQE
  • Experience gained within accounting practice or a similar varied in house tax position
  • Excellent working knowledge of UK tax legislation
  • Excellent working knowledge of tax reporting work
  • Experience of working with HMRC approved and unapproved share schemes preferable
  • Experience of drafting policies and procedures
  • Staff management experience

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Planning, organisation and time management skill with ability to prioritise
  • Ability to work to tight reporting deadlines
  • Good working knowledge of IFRS and FRS101
  • Preparation of corporation tax computations and returns
  • Preparation of VAT returns, including partial exemption calculations
  • Preparing annual PAYE and other employee-related returns for HMRC (P35, P11d)
  • Tax/NI calculations
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Excel
  • Logical mindset; able to solve problems
  • Disciplined, methodical and rigorous combining 'eye for detail’
  • Flexible and highly motivated
