Acorn Executive Search is thrilled to be partnering with Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) to support in the identification and recruitment of their new Chair.
This is an excellent opportunity to provide clear and visible leadership for WCVA as an independent charity and for the wider voluntary sector in Wales, as well as sharing their commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion by valuing differences to make better decisions and deliver better outcomes.
The role of Chair is an exciting and diverse position where you'll get the opportunity to work with a huge variety of stakeholders from a range of backgrounds and experiences. The Chair will help navigate a number of key challenges that face the sector in the near future, such as the impact of leaving the EU, reducing inequalities in the sector, developing digital resources and the need to build resilience into all areas of work.
WCVA are a national membership organisation based in Cardiff who operate across Wales supporting third sector partners. Their impact over the last few years alone in the voluntary sector has seen record funding and support for those that need it most.
The successful candidate will lead the Board of Trustees in the context of vision, mission, values and strategy of the organisation. Ensuring that the trustees fulfil their overall responsibility for strategic leadership, governance and appropriate management control of WCVA.
This is a voluntary position however reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. The successful candidate will be appointed on a three-year term and can serve a maximum of three terms (i.e. 9 years). The expected time commitment is 30-35 days which will be spread across adhoc calls and board meetings.
The Chair is responsible for:
-Providing clear and visible national leadership for WCVA as an independent charity, and for the wider voluntary sector in Wales
-Providing leadership for the board of trustees in their role of setting the strategy and policy of the charity
-Ensuring WCVA works to its strategic plan and to support the executive team in driving and monitoring the delivery of that plan
-Ensuring WCVA operates at the highest standards of governance and its systems and processes adhere to the Charity Governance Code.
-Effectively Chairing meetings of the Board of Trustees and Chairing the annual general meeting
-Clear commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, valuing differences to make better decisions and deliver better outcomes
-Ability to lead with openness, honesty, integrity and transparency
-A good understanding of charity governance issues in a complex organisation with a diversity of membership and a wide geographical spread
-Excellent chairing skills (not necessarily at board level) to lead and manage the board effectively
-A commitment to WCVA's mission and a knowledge of and empathy with the role of the voluntary sector and volunteering.
-Willing and available to work with the CEO, via supervisions and ad-hoc, confidential conversations in between formal meetings.
-An Awareness of and commitment to WCVA as a bilingual organisation. An ability to speak Welsh would be beneficial but not essential.
