Thera East has an exciting opportunity available for a Support Worker to join us in Newmarket and Gazeley. This role is available working variable hours, full- or part-time, permanent basis, and in return, we will offer a competitive rate of £9.50 per hour.

TheraTrust was first set up in 1998 and over the years we have grown from a team supporting 5 people in Cambridgeshire, to a nationwide trust providing a range of support for around 3000 people with a learning disability.

About the role:

The Support Worker will be part of an inclusive team empowered to create innovative ways to support an individual achieve their own personal goals.  The ways of supporting will change with everyone you work with because everyone has different ambitions and any day could include helping someone develop new skills, providing personal and emotional support, helping people plan and manage their own home, or providing support with leisure, interests and travel.

Using a person-centered approach, we will match your likes & interests to the person you support, empowering people with a learning disability to live the lives they choose.

Your enthusiasm, people skills, reliability, and can-do approach is vital - but no formal experience is necessary as all our staff receive ongoing endorsed training tailored to the specific needs of the individual you support, allowing personal development and career progression.

Responsibilities of the Support Worker will include:

  • Assisting our supports with shopping, preparing meals, looking after their home, socialising and personal care
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of all support plans
  • Assisting people to manage and administer their medication
  • Assisting people we support with their day to day activities at home, at work and within the community
  • Supporting people to live safely in their own home, pay bills and ensure the person’s home and belongings are looked after
  • Supporting people with their personal care and appearance
  • Looking into opportunities for the people we support
  • Contributing your ideas to the Thera team to ensure a good service for each person being supported
  • Involving the people we support in their care and sharing good practice with the rest of the team
  • Positively contributing to the organisations values and brand
  • Assisting in the creation of support plans and other administration tasks
  • Performing any other reasonable task as requested by your line manager

What we are looking for in our ideal Support Worker:

  • Committed to supporting ordinary living for people with a learning disability
  • A drivers licence is desirable
  • Basic level of English and Math
  • Flexible to work some bank holidays, weekends and evenings
  • Friendly, patient and kind
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent customer service
  • Able to work in a team
  • Comfortable making decision
  • Able to build strong relationships
