Role: Senior MI/BI Developer

Location: Stratford upon Avon (50% remote)

Contract Type: Permanent

About the role

My client is a leading company within insurance and financial services. They are looking for a detail-orientated individual with a passion for Business Intelligence design to join their software development team and lead data modelling and design.

The team develop and support a market leading suite of insurance software applications based on modern Object-Oriented technologies. This role focuses on development and support of the Business Intelligence Warehousing solutions that underpin the core technology platform. This includes Guidewire's DataHub, InfoCenter, IBM Framework Manager and IBM Cognos solutions.

As a Senior MI Developer you will be responsible for:

  • Designing, developing and supporting the MI infrastructure surrounding the Guidewire ClaimCenter application including Guidewire's DataHub, InfoCenter, IBM Framework Manager and IBM Cognos Reporting solutions utilising SQL Server databases and BODS.
  • Configuring, developing, unit testing, integrating and leading complex/large technical code changes in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, to build technical solutions to agreed estimates, time and quality requirements in an Agile development environment.
  • Consulting and advising business stakeholders on new business initiatives requiring IT solutions to ensure a planned and cohesive IT development approach.
  • Coordinating, investigating, diagnosing and resolving live technical incidents and system problems to meet agreed service levels, in accordance with the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework.
  • Evaluating and interpreting end-to-end technical MI system designs to understand impact on infrastructure, applications, environments and / or products.
  • Ensuring that effective relationships with internal/ external teams and stakeholders are developed and maintained both onshore and offshore.
  • Researching, understanding and applying new technical tools, processes and technical developments to promote continuous improvement.
  • Coaching and mentoring team members and colleagues on their technical skills to improve their competency, quality and consistency of work.
  • Delivering short term / one-off projects and activities as required by and to the standards and outcomes agreed with Line Manager.

You will need experience of:

  • IT software development using BODS, SQL server
  • Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence & ETL solutions
  • Data warehouse design, data modelling & ETL solutions (specifically star schema structure & design) having the ability to translate business requirements into technical data design solutions
  • IBM Cognos Reporting Including IBM Framework Manager would be a distinct advantage

You should be able to:

  • Work closely with the business community at all levels of the organisation to understand their goals and issues
  • Lead technical discussions on how best to model a solution
  • Advise on best practice and use past experience to articulate reasons for adopting design decisions
  • Excel in a fast-paced Agile development environment and be flexible in approach to work environment and responsibilities
  • Comply with team, department and company policy and procedure

You should have:

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy for data mapping and problem solving
  • A passion for providing excellent customer service; taking responsibility and ownership of requirements and issues.
