Job Description

Job Title: Mechanical Maintenance Technician

Job Type: Permanent

Location: Shropshire (commutable from Bridgnorth, Birmingham, Dudley, Kidderminster, Telford, Stafford, Walsall, Wolverhampton etc)

Salary: £33,500 plus overtime at x1.58 Monday to Friday & x1.92 Weekend and Bank Hols.

Premier Engineering has engaged with a key client and a leading manufacturer based in Shropshire where a new opportunity has risen for an Engineering Manager to join on a permanent basis.

Working within the mechanical team to maintain all plant machinery including both proactive planned maintenance and breakdown repair.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Safely applying specialist craft skills for the assembly, dismantling, inspection repair and testing of mechanical equipment
  • Reading and understanding construction drawings, designs and system schematics to assess equipment, or systems performance and evaluate the cause of any malfunction. Effect necessary repairs and adjustments
  • Carrying out breakdown and planned maintenance tasks 
  • Receiving Instructions from the Mechanical Maintenance Manager, Reliability Engineer, Reliability Technician, or from planned lists/CMMS to undertake project and maintenance work on the shift in conjunction with Technicians and other operations/engineering personnel
  • Supporting a reliability centered maintenance approach to identifying and undertaking maintenance tasks on major process assets
  • Ensuring product quality by managing throughput issues in the execution of maintenance and improvement works
  • Reporting works completed on the site CMMS systems
  • Responding to site emergencies to recover/restore production in a timely manner
  • Assisting in ongoing process control and quality improvement developments through liaison with technical staff including product trial management and evaluation
  • Assisting in the training and development of other members of the team and apprentices

Necessary Skills, Experience, Education and Qualifications - Essential and Desirable to the Role
  • *Essential* - Time Served Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering / NVQ level 3
  • *Essential* - Working knowledge of relevant engineering principles and practices demonstrated in a relevant manufacturing industry in engineering and maintenance or reliability fields
  • Ability to accurately compile, interpret and use data and other information to address engineering problems
  • Knowledgeable in the area of equipment lubricants and lubrication techniques with experience of understanding of the use of hydraulics systems with an understanding of codes and symbols used in drawings for mechanical and hydraulic schemes
  • Ability to read and understand technical writing, specifications and interpret mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic drawings/diagrams and technical information
  • Established skills in general fitting, welding, machining, construction, installation and maintenance techniques with an understanding of metal properties and production
  • Knowledge of the use of precision measurement equipment and instrumentation
  • The ability to use knowledge effectively to fault find on complex machinery and systems
  • Computer literacy (ideally conversant in the use of CMMS) and basic office software
  • A strong understanding of the importance of Health and Safety in the workplace
  • Has in-depth knowledge of the procedures, manufacturing processes, and methods within the area of work and a thorough understanding of the safe working practises of all operations within the section
  • LOTO
  • Good working knowledge of plant and machinery with the area of responsibility to include fork lift trucks and overhead cranes with the ability to drive a fork lift truck and operate the overhead crane
  • Strong ability to work on all machine equipment within the area of responsibility
  • The ability to communicate with colleagues of all levels within the business

Mechanical Technician - Package

·         Shift position 4 on (2 days, 2 nights) and 4 off

·         Pension up to 7% matched contribution

·         4 x Annual Salary ‘Death in Service’

·         Monthly and Annual Company Performance Bonus

Due to the nature of the business, the Mechanical Technician should be aware that under special circumstances (e.g., breakdowns, outage periods, etc.) longer working hours or working approved overtime might be required to fulfil the duties of the role.
