Provide leadership for colleagues.
Ensure all aspects of people management, development and review are in place across the team.
Keep the teams' structure and skill set under review, ensure that these are appropriate and deliver efficient, effective and consistent working practices and output.Ensure financial transactions are recorded appropriately to comply with relevant accounting standards, relevant legislation and internal policies.Review and approve journals posted to the general ledger.Ensure all appropriate reconciliations are performed to standard and in a timely manner.
Escalate issues to senior management as appropriate.Ensure all intercompany transactions are posted and reconciled.Ensure endowment funds, donations and investments are appropriately accounted for.Lead on the production of the statutory accounts/financial statements/notes ensuring produced in line with accounting standards, internal policies and relevant legislation.
Ensure an effective planning framework is in place, key stakeholders engaged across the University to meet all agreed timelines.Key liaison point with the external auditors, manage queries and issues in a timely manner.Perform ad-hoc investigations into financial accounting matters.Prepare the annual student fee matrix and manage associated queries.Provide a second review of quarterly VAT/Tax calculations.Maintain an accurate fixed asset register, ensure fixed assets and associated depreciation are accurately accounted for.Work with the Risk and Control Manager to ensure a suite of critical controls are developed, operationalised and monitored.Provide technical expertise to senior management.Prepare reports and papers on accounting matters for presentation at senior governance meetings.Continue to make improvements to the efficiency and effectiveness of the financial accounting processes and controls.Deliver changes to and embed processes that support the new ERP system.Education, Qualifications & Experience:EssentialNationally recognised accountancy qualification e.G.
