Role: Accountant

Location: Leicester

Duration: Permanent

Salary: Up to £44,000

Sellick Partnership are recruiting for an experienced Accountant sought for a public sector organisation based in Leicester on a permanent basis. The role is to primarily lead in the monitoring and reporting of incomes and expenditure against budgets whilst instilling a culture of systems thinking with a customer focussed approach. Furthermore, you will also assist in the development of a high-quality cost-effective service in Budget Monitoring and Year-End Accounting

The Accountant will be responsible for:

Produce reports for the Management team monthly
Monitor revenue budgets monthly, identifying and addressing any areas of concern with the appropriate Manager
Prepare and maintain budget data in respect of establishment costs, time allocations and recharging of central costs
Ensure all budgets are produced and completed on time
Co-ordinate the workload of the department to ensure the work is prioritised and deadlines are adhered to
Supervise the development of the Accountancy Assistant - Understanding their developmental needs and providing appropriate experience within the workload allocated to them
Perform administration tasks in relation to staff sickness, attendance, and development in relation to the Accountancy Assistant
Ensure the timely production of any ad-hoc reports to the Accountancy Services Manager
Compile and submit information for Government returns
Perform appropriate year end tasks
Close relevant annual accounts as required in accordance with the accounting and statutory requirements
Provide cover for the Treasury and Taxation Accountant in the management and control of daily cash flow activities

The ideal candidate for the Accountant role should ideally have:

Knowledge and understanding of double entry accounting
Knowledge and understanding in the production of Management accounts and Budget Monitoring reports
Experience in Budget production and maintenance
Experience in control account reconciliations
Experience in managing and supervising a team
Experience of Closedown of accounts
Be CCAB qualified or part qualified or AAT Level 4 qualified would be desirable but not essential

The Accountant will need to able to be an excellent communicator, with experience of communicating with directorate level stakeholders, to provide the organisation with a professional who is compassionate, committed, and inclusive, who can work off their own initiative. The successful candidate will need to be able to hit the ground running in this extraordinary fast paced environment.
