Bioinformatics Manager (Illumina Lab Services - Operations)Cambridge Onsite We are seeking a Hands-on Bioinformatics Manager responsible for building, integrating, and sustaining multiple bioinformatics pipelines.  These pipelines are used in production to support the clinical interpretation of sequencing data analysis results. Responsible for computational and integration aspects of algorithms and delivery of key metrics. Day-to-day activities involve leading the bioinformatics scientific input multiple development projects, capturing user needs and requirements, DOE, driving to completion verification and validation activities and documentation deliverables as required as part of our Quality Management System. Surrounded by extraordinary people, inspiring leaders, and world-changing projects, you will do more and become more than you ever thought possible.Illumina's employee benefits are industry-leading and include, flexible time off, private medical insurance, compassion and care time off, leisure travel insurance, pension, lifestyle allowance, employee stock purchasing program, volunteer time off and much more!Why youAs our Bioinformatics Manager you will have 5 direct reports, will require overall knowledge within an operations function.   You will be collaborative with Software Engineering, Laboratory Operations and ILS Development with a passion for operations and leading a team to be successful in this role. Responsibilities include Provide hands-on technical guidance, leadership, and coaching to a team of Bioinformatics scientists performing clinical operations activitiesDevelop, integrate, monitor, and troubleshoot bioinformatics pipelines to support the team’s production scheduleApply scientific and engineering best practices to transition, manage, and scale bioinformatics algorithms and pipelines from R&D to productionResolve operational pain points through the development of data-driven automation toolsMonitoring both output and quality to ensure that Illumina consistently hits key performance indicatorsDevelop, maintain and improve processes around data management.Liaising with partners both internal and external to optimise levels within agreed contractual controlsEnsure work is compliant to existing Quality standards and collaborate on initiatives targeting additional accreditationsRepresent Bioinformatics operations at compliance audits, customer working group meetings and site visitorsPipeline troubleshooting and root cause analysis, working within Quality Management System to investigate and resolve non-conformances, applying preventative actions and monitoring effectivenessProduce reports both customer-facing and internal for key process performance and financial measures.Maintain and improve training materials, schedule and staff development opportunitiesDevelops algorithms and workflows under general instruction.Works with data sets from current and new platforms to solve complex problems of analytical, computational, and integration-related topics.Provides methods, prototypes, and code for implementation in internal tools and end-user applications.Establish Quality Assurance bioinformatics related metrics and protocols based on assay design and performance.Creation of web-based bioinformatics tools including database design and implementation.Coordinate tasks in Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) such as collection of requirements, software verification, maintenance and clinical validationProvides validation and support services.Work collaboratively with bioinformatics and research scientists across the organization in developing, improving and deploying bioinformatics tools.Communicate findings to the research scientists and present results to the R&D, process engineering, and laboratory teamPreferred background, skills and experienceBSc or Masters degree or equivalent in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics or related field required.Some years genomics industry experience required.Proficient with standard bioinformatics and analysis tools and packages in an operations environmentExperience with statistical software (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB, PANDAS) and database languages.Have a keen ability to evaluate the pros/cons of bioinformatics deployment options against key operational metricsSome years of line management or supervisory experience preferredStrong communication and interpersonal skills across operations and development teams.Comfortable interacting with internal and external stakeholdersWhat can you expectOur team members are bright, energetic and dedicated - they are the driving force behind our innovation and impact.
