The role will cover the key responsibilities/ activities outlined below. This role will take overall accountability for the Staffing (sector management, pipeline overview, consultant allocations) and  PD processes  (strategic PD performance management, promotions, investments etc.) for the AC  Programme (~140 2022) As well as surge and cover support across the broader PD & Staffing lanes A1 – M. At the heart of this role sits the ambition to provide the high-quality and efficient delivery of the role activities in a way that balances and successfully prioritises the business's commercial needs whilst remaining true to our commitment to the professional development and wellbeing of our growing General Consulting population. This programme oversees our most junior consultant population at Bain, and as such requires the firm yet compassionate  manageement of their early consultant journey. This will involve ensuring their introduction to Bain is successful, and that their specific career development and experience milestones are met.The Senior Manager will not only lead & manage the day-to-day delivery of the AC PD & Staffing programme but will be responsible for the leadership and development of the team in lane (both current and future hires). Within this fast-paced, high-touch, high-volume model, this role will be expected to proactively problem solve and partner with a variety of Senior Stakeholders and the wider PD & Staffing team to resolve the evolving requirements of the current/future PD & staffing function. The ability to step back and understand the bigger picture and potential  trade=offs required at each decision point is vital. Specifically, role duties will include:1.    Lead and manage the day-to-day delivery of lane Staffing demand/supply. This role will be accountable for the timely, efficient, balanced approach to AC Staffing and will include the overall implementation and ongoing development of the 'Staffing 3.0' strategy. It will need to take into account the often competing and differing demands of the General Consulting population and the businesses' overall commercial needs. This role will drive the drumbeat of the weekly and monthly staffing process and often provide adhoc yet quick turnaround business-critical decision-making and strategic guidance. In addition, the Senior Manager will be on hand to support the wider programme staffing team, problem solve and be the resolution escalation point for sensitive/complex situations, e.g. performance investments, new hire staffing, absences, and upward feedback. Within these instances, the role will need to demonstrate a clear understanding of when to act as a sounding board vs where it is appropriate to lean in and provide opportunities for team development. 2.  Engage and facilitate the management of sector-specific sales/pipeline demand/supply. Overall accountability for specific sector engagement– demonstrating a sound understanding of the sector landscape, key stakeholders and the expected demand/supply tradeoffs/requests. Practically, this will also translate to being accountable for all BPA & Finance team-related queries for these sectors, including driving adboc recommendations and the weekly input/exports to the pipeline, balancer alignment, and pre/post revenue staffing adjustments, and the prioritisation of commercial development asks. The ambition is for this role achieves expert status within its relevant sectors, e.g. a deep understanding of the priority accounts, critical skills required by the type of project and the building of successful relationships with practice LT (all of which should be incorporated into the development plans for the wider staffing team). 3.    Effectively manage the day-to-day delivery of the Programmes' complete Professional Development cycle. This will include overall accountability for the promotions process (although specific duties will sit with the in-lane PD team), e.g. agreeing on the comprehensive work plan with the lane PD specialist and providing routine guidance and support where required. In addition, this role will be required to be up-to-date on all PD-related processes to help guide the team's work (e.g. reviews, click-ups, compensation, flex requests, sponsorship/mentorship and wellbeing (more comprehensive breakdown included in key responsibilities below). This will also ensure best practice and successful collaboration with other functions such as HR & Ops. Finally, it is mission critical that this role has a view of the emerging and ongoing PD  themes and can therefore rigorously prioritise the need and use of PD interventions to drive the delivery of the correct PD outcomes for consultants. 4.    Lead and develop the in-lane PD & Staffing Team – (4  individuals by Q1 2023) to be a high-performing, motivated, well-connected and inspired team. This will involve a selection of duties outlined below, but at its core, the role will focus on providing inspirational leadership and advocacy for the PD & Staffing programme team. With a clear aspiration that this team becomes a cohesive unit, whereby the needs of the business are harmonised with the appropriate BAU and developmental opportunities for all. 5.    Collaborate with the Director and act as a thought partner to generate and provide strategic insights into overall Programme performance. Generating critical insights from staffing demand/supply data. Proactively raising important issues and highlighting best practices across all PD & Staffing processes, initiatives, tools and systems. This will include reporting back regularly to engage with the Director on progress vs KPI metrics and where additional support is required, e.g. time to staff new hires, performance investment/improvement cases, time to promotion/ number of promotes per round, upward feedback, consultant karma levels and retention risks. 6.    Engage and align with stakeholders across the business where necessary related to PD & Staffing topics. This will include junior and senior stakeholders in General Consulting and the wider PD team in London (plus EMEA where required). This will primarily take the form of independent or team-based day-to-day stakeholder engagement needed as part of the core role responsibilities, e.g. via sector lead engagement, allocation and discussion of balanced teams, pipeline management in partnership with BP&A and Finance, promotions management, performance interventions, and the management of escalations across all areas previously highlighted. At times, this will require a direct and firm communication style; therefore, a high degree of comfort with 'holding the line' will be vital. Furthermore, at times and in collaboration with the Director, this role will need to engage in the more strategic alignment of senior stakeholders as part of broader management BAU or extraordinary circumstances. 7.    Lead implementation of specific initiatives and take ownership of key results  within the scope of the PD & Staffing function (at tiems in in partnership with the wider PD LTteam)  With the support and input of the Director  identify key opportunities for improvement, design/ develop solutions, drive through implementation of initiatives and embed change in practice, track and measure agreed metrics to assess results, and course-correct where required. This will include reporting back regularly to engage with the Director on progress vs. metrics and where additional support is required.8.    Lower priority/ lighter touch vs 1-7 above: Contribute to broader PD team as an emerging senior leader. As a senior member of the PD team, this role should contribute role-modelling and informal inspirational leadership to across the PD team as a whole. The exact style and mechanisms of this are open to design by the individual in role, but should contribute to the growth and aspirations of the large junior PD team. We expect this role to have a positive impact building up and maintaining the PD team’s culture, experience and connectivity/ fun, with the support and collaboration of the Director.
