From a market perspective, the role focuses on decisions makers in the academic segment- research leaders and faculty leaders, as well as funders.Working directly with senior leaders, you will lead strategy projects addressing our most pressing strategic questions. The strategy team at Elsevier is responsible for shaping the long-term strategy and execution to drive business growth, answer questions such as: Which market segment should we invest in? Where to focus our innovation efforts? How can we build on our unique capabilities to deliver value to customers? Which M&A opportunities should we pursue? Your responsibilitiesStrategic projects and executionYou will work closely with senior management to address strategic questions such as new business opportunities, business model transformation, new market/segment entry, portfolio prioritization/ restructuringYou will be expected to provide concrete, actionable strategy recommendations backed by customer focused, data driven in-depth analysis, and hypothesis driven approachOperating plan and deliverablesYou will support development of the annual strategy plan, and own the end-to-end deliverables, working closely with the segment lead, product and cross-functional teams;You will work with segment leads and cross-functional teams to ensure robust segment operating plans backed by strong customer and market insights, competitive insights, and business/ product understanding;Support M&A process and deliverables as required (managing M&A pipeline, M&A process deliverables for identified targets);Monitor the monthly OKR dashboard, identify areas where we need to focus our efforts.Market and commercial insights You will also be expected to own the develop your own perspective on the market trends, competitive dynamics and potential developments in the Research market;You will lead the annual market sizing exercise for the segment, and develop a view on competitor shares, overall segment growth and top-down opportunity for the segment;You will also analyze performance of key competitors, impact of any acquisitions/ partnerships or new developments in the Research space that will help us refine our strategy thinking.What you should bringBachelor’s degree required. Masters degree in a relevant field or MBA preferred;At least 5 years of experience in a strategy role in a management consulting, or a large corporate;Sector experience in B2B information solutions, or analytics or software space;Excellent analytical (quantitative and qualitative), data modelling and analysis skills (MS Excel);Excellent time management and project management skills;Strong stakeholder management experience;Strong written and oral communication skills – able to construct convincing arguments and deliver them to senior stakeholders with confidence.Work in a way that works for youWe promote a healthy work/life balance across the organisation.
