We have a new and exciting opportunity to join our Tu Clothing team as a Head of Category for Brands & New Business! This role orchestrates delivery of the Clothing Commercial Strategy by building the Customer Proposition for Clothing Partnerships and New Business opportunities, working alongside the specialists in Own Brand Buying & Sourcing, Merchandising, Innovation, Customer Insights and Commercial Strategy.
You will be obsessed with executing ranges across channels that surprise, delight and exceed our customers’ expectations.

You will do this by demonstrating strategic thinking and the ability to work on broader initiatives whilst being adept at switching your focus to more detailed commercial delivery when it is appropriate to do so.

As a Head of Category you'll:

Generate a clear category strategy, with a compelling customer and product vision for 3rd-party branded products, designed to meet target customer missions and which identifies key market opportunities for growth across channels.
Be accountable for partnering with the relevant specialist teams to deliver against commercial targets, channel metrics and product strategy for your area of responsibility.
Be a champion for sustainability through both how we do things and the product we deliver.
Build a compelling annual customer plan, working in conjunction with Digital to formulate and execute the overall pricing and promotions strategy that delivers against the commercial category strategy.
Demonstrate agility in a complex Trading environment, potentialising category opportunities and responding to changing market, customer and trend dynamics to maximise commercial return & profitability. Accountable for Financial planning and performance evaluation.
Work with the Own Brand Commercial teams to ensure Clothing meets its required commercial targets across all channels.
Develop strong, mutually beneficial relationships with external and internal partners to deliver against the Category Strategy.
Lead the team in all aspects of Supplier & Partner relationship management, role modelling best practice at all times.
Develop & maintain robust legal contracts to ensure all 3rd party relationships work within the required governance.
Motivate, inspire, coach and develop a diverse high performing team that embraces change in the face of ambiguity and role models Sainsbury’s values whilst delivering against commercial metrics.

What we would love to see from you:

Demonstrable experience working across multiple retail sectors and/or retail models, with specialist experience in the Branded Clothing, Jewellery & Watches markets.
In-depth understanding of the broader UK market, constantly open to seeking new opportunities that create competitive advantage, as well as having an understanding of International retail dynamics that influence UK customer behaviour.
Strong financial and commercial trading experience built in a trading retail environment.
Adept at forming and maintaining strong senior relationships with both internal & external stakeholders; a skilled business partner, able to socialise the category strategy to gain buy-in and support.
Role model positive and agile ways of working with all areas of the business; facilitating an environment that delivers at pace and iterates from learning.
A strategic thinker, who puts the customer at the heart of decision-making, striking the balance between driving business metrics & longer-term objectives, based on optimising the balance of data, multiple perspectives and own intuition.
