If so, we’d love to hear from you We are looking to recruit an Assistant Economist within the Analytical Projects Unit, which sits in our Economics Group. The Economics Group provide Ministers with analysis and assessment of fast-paced economic developments in the UK economy and advises on their implications for the Government’s economic strategy. The Analytical Projects Unit provides analytics to HMT and Ministerial priorities. The team is deployed on projects covering a diverse set of public policy issues which have previously included developing a model to forecast vaccine procurement and demand, and estimating revenue impacts and behaviour change resulting from climate change levies What you will bring to the team: This role will suit candidates with excellent economic and analytical skills who are looking for a varied and stretching portfolio of responsibilities and enjoy working collaboratively with a range of partners. Being able to get up to speed on new issues quickly will also be key. As well as helping shape the values of Economics Group, key responsibilities will include: · Deploying appropriate economic and analytical techniques to improve HMT’s understanding of an issue and underpin advice to ministers. · Scoping, leading and delivering analytical or economic projects, sometimes across multiple workstreams. · Effectively communicating the conclusions of projects to Senior Officials, Ministers, and other partners, influencing the strategic direction of HMT policy. Candidates are required to hold an undergraduate degree in Economics (or an undergraduate degree with a substantive amount of economics content e.g., dual-honours) to apply for this role.
