A fast paced, ever changing, financial services organisation, based in Slough, is looking for an IT Infrastructure Specialist to join its Infrastructure Team, working closely with the IT team and their party infrastructure suppliers.

This role will be a hybrid role, working both in the office and from home.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to the IT strategy, architectural direction and infrastructure roadmaps; keeping up to date with market developments and pro-actively suggesting how best to incorporate such developments
  • Ensure smooth running of day to day operational IT infrastructure services, including:
    • Provide second line support for infrastructure related incidents & requests raised
    • Build and maintain excellent operational relationships with 3rd party IT suppliers
    • Work as a productive member of the team by resolving incidents & requests, and liaising with technical teams in-house and 3rd parties to resolve all incidents & requests within SLA
    • Identify any underlying problems and work with the IT team to resolve them
    • Ensure efficient and effective systems monitoring, housekeeping and preventative/corrective action e.g. server performance, applications availability, applications performance
    • Provide network and security management - network and application access control, remote access control, overall IT security analysis and protection including regular penetration testing, web security management and patch updates across the estate
    • Ensure certificate renewals are undertaken so as not to impact service
    • Undertake and routinely monitor backup and recovery/restore processes
    • Oversee any batch/scheduled jobs, automating these where possible and ensuring these complete successfully with appropriate controls/processes for proactive/preventive action if they fail
    • Together with the Database Administrator, manage the vehicle data load process
    • Undertake proactive capacity and availability management and server performance management


  • Practical working knowledge of IT infrastructure and operations,with experience of server, network and database management/administration
  • Keen to keep up to date with IT best practices and industry trends
  • Understanding of financial services applications would be beneficial
  • Good understanding of security and compliance standards, business continuity and disaster recovery
  • Good understanding of environment and release management including application management and patch installation
  • Understanding of IT projects especially as these result in introduction of new services or changes to existing ones
  • Ideally ITIL Foundation qualified, with good practical understanding of ITIL Service Operations processes
