Job Description

*Remote Working - Senior Ruby on Rails and/or React Developer - Full and exciting product road map ahead!

*Please note that my client cannot offer VISA Sponsorship for this role

Your new company
My client are one of the largest influences in their industry in the whole of Europe. They aren't directly a technology company, however this is still a great company to work for as a developer. Their tooling and processes have been built from their experience working in big tech companies, so you get the benefits of industry level best practice, while working in a small, personal, collaborative team environment. Their Digital team is made up of 8 employees, whilst the business as a whole exceeds 200 employees.

This is a chance to work on code that will have a positive impact on the lives of many in the UK.

Your new role
This role is to work as a Full-Stack Web Application Developer on internal facing tools used by the team, and external facing products used by their customers and the general public.

Their product roadmap for the year ahead is currently full, and there's lots more that they would like to build, so they are on the lookout for an additional ream member.

You will hopefully be pleased to know that they:

  • Use modern-but-well-established tools (React, Ruby on Rails 6, APIs, React Native, Unity)
  • Run a continuous integration (CI) and deployment (CD) process
  • Have a good tests and code coverage
  • Run code reviews for all work
  • Have minimal DevOps requirements (managed via Heroku and AWS)
  • Do sprint planning, and manage a product backlog with as little admin as possible
  • Work in a lovely office, with quiet space to focus, and a lake to sit by if you ever experience " Error: -41 "
  • Have implemented a Remote Working environment that allows full remote work with the exception of only a monthly trip into the office on the first Monday of the month

What you'll need to succeed

  • Motivated to build products and tools that make users lives easier
  • 5+ years of software development (more than just websites)
  • 2+ Years of React / React Native / Ruby at a senior level
  • Worked in teams of at least 5 developers
  • Some performance optimisation experience
  • Some architectural design experiences
  • Keen to mentor and share knowledge
  • Willing to compromise on theoretical perfection in order to ship
  • Happy to swap between multiple projects

Beneficial, but not essential:

  • Worked on projects with many users
  • Experience working with offline/online syncing products
  • Security

What you'll get in return

They ensure you work in an environment where staff are motivated and passionate about the work they are doing. They offer you the opportunity to grow and develop with the business.

  • A full-time salary position working daytimes during the week with 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Remote working options
  • Their office is a beautiful, converted manor house in rural Hampshire with vast grounds complete with its own lake, orchard and plenty of on-site parking
  • Fun - through annual staff away-day, Christmas party and opportunities to socialise with other like-minded and passionate individuals throughout the year
  • The chance to provide a quality experience to their customers all over the UK
  • Opportunities to work with their charity foundation
  • Bonus scheme and company performance-based rewards
  • Opportunity for 1 month paid sabbatical after 5 years employment
