We are currently recruiting for an Environmental Health Officer with experience in dealing with Private Sector Housing disrepair and enforcement cases, using the Housing Act 2004 and other Environmental Health legislation. They must have obtained at least the HHSRS 2-day qualification and have experience in the preparation and serving of legal notices. Must be organised, with good customer service and excellent communication skills. Applications without these requirements will not be considered.
This is an opportunity to join a thriving and agile Private Sector Housing Team, within a well-established Environmental Health department. We support a flexible working pattern and can accommodate home working. The role will require working from the office and carrying out physical inspections on site (around 3 days a week but may vary dependent on service need) and may need to come into the borough at short notice.
Primarily this role is to respond to, investigate and resolve complaints regarding poor housing conditions in the private sector in the Borough. Undertaking inspections under the Housing Health and Safety Rating system (and other legislation) and taking the most appropriate course of action within the Council’s policies and procedures. Where notices are not complied with, to instigate enforcement action promptly.
Opportunity to undertake the inspection of HMO’s and processing of HMO licence applications, draft licence conditions and where appropriate take enforcement action for breaches. Experience in dealing with section 257 HMOs an advantage.
Please note this is a contracted position with the possibility of extension depending on budgets and performance.
