Electrical Design Engineer

Do you have experience designing electronic and electrical subsystems, coupled with knowledge of AC and DC electrical principles? If so please get in touch with us directly to discuss an exciting role with our client who is based on the science park in Cambridge.

Start: ASAP
Location: Cambridge Science Park
Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £Negotiable

You will be responsible for the design and development of new products, including flash systems and bespoke Switch Mode Power Supply solutions for customers so an innovative mind is a must as they could be for existing customers or emerging markets.

Duties:

- Design electrical and electronic subsystem designs to enable development of new products through to final market release
- Fully validate designs through the test process
- Define and use processes to allow concept validation of all design solutions
- Contribute to the design expertise of the team with the following electrical skills:
- Electrical control panel incorporating 3 phase power, high power switching electronics, analogue control to current standards
- Experience in defining the regulatory and safety requirements of product design to machinery / low voltage and EMC directives
- Perform FMEA / DFM / Risk assessments
- Design control PCBs for integration and control of subsystems
Support the transfer of products from development to manufacturing including all documentation

Skills / Experience:

- Degree qualified in Electronics or Electrical Engineering or similar
- Good understanding of AC and DC electrical principles, capacitance, inductance etc
- Working knowledge of 3 phase, its control and associated components
- Experience in designing, building and implementing AC/DC power converters
- Good understanding of common power topologies (flyback, buck-boost convertors etc)
- Control loop theory and practice in the context of switch-mode power supplies
- Competent electronics tester and validator
- Comprehensive knowledge of legal and regulatory obligation relating to CE, UKCA and UL marketing
- Producing detailed electrical designs - experience using Eplan P8 desirable
- Familiar with simulation tools for modelling power supplies (Mathcad, MATLAB)
