What is the job?As an Area manager you will effectively lead and develop sales of waste wood to meet the demand of outbound supply to contracted power stations. This role operates within a very competitive and ever-changing market so you will need to be pro-active in managing and maintaining current customer base whilst developing new customer bases in line with budget expectations.

The core of this role is sales and customer account management, you will be meeting customers face to face to discuss their requirements, therefore being confident and possessing excellent people skills, communication skills and negotiation skills is a must.

This role will cover the North East across into the Midlands (as far north as Newcastle and as far south as Leicester and Peterborough), so you must be prepared to be field based 3-4 days per week with home working 1-2 days per week.

Working Hours: 40 hours per week
Working Schedule: Monday to Friday

Ideal location for this role is in and around Rotherham and Doncaster area, other areas will be assessed dependent on experience.

Key Responsibilities

To lead and develop sales to meet operational business targets

  • Work in line with budgets and KPI’s to achieve target volume, revenue and net gate fees.
  • Maintain and retain current customer base,
  • Understand industry requirements and legal obligations.
  • Work independently and with procurement team to drive sales within the North East and across the Midlands.
  • To revisit lost customers, understand the reasons for losing them and try to win them back
  • Identify gaps in the market and areas which could be developed
  • Collect customer feedback and undertake market research as a tool to expand the business.
  • Improve any processes that do not deliver the required results and address any issues arising with customer base.
  • Keep up to date with competitors

To monitor contracted customers

  • Review how customers are performing against their contract
  • Produce monthly reports against contracted customers
  • Mange any quality issues
  • Work with all areas of the sales team to develop future contracts

Maintain and Expand the customer database

  • Produce reports as required to demonstrate customer base, volumes delivered and any trends you may notice
  • Ensure site audits are completed and all the legal requirements are met with current and potential customers ahead of any loads being delivered.
  • Ensure all necessary systems are up to date with relevant conversations, pricing and issues with customers.
  • Develop sales strategies to improve market share
  • Ensure correct approvals are obtained ahead of commitment to spend/refund

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Experience within sales and/or procurement
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Be able to adapt quickly to change and juggle multiple priorities
  • Pro-active and organised nature
  • Understanding of in-house systems and good knowledge of word and excel
  • Ability to work within a team

Desirable

  • Experience within waste wood market
  • Understanding of legal requirement for waste wood deliveries
