This challenging and exciting opportunity requires an assistant quantity surveying professional with at least 1-2 years’ experience in any area of the construction, civil or structural engineering, rail, infrastructure or utilities sectors.
Our client is an established and reputable construction, civil engineering and infrastructure contracting company operating on a nationwide basis. Their portfolio of services and professional, qualified staff will typically provide site survey and preparation of working drawings, design to BS and Eurocodes, and in full compliance of local authority and NHBC requirements, preparation of working drawings on AutoCAD, and total co-ordination of projects to fulfil clients’ programme requirements and quality control. Their service offering covers a wide variety of industry sectors including; civil & structural engineering, ground & geotechnical engineering, infrastructure, rail, piling & foundations, groundworks, basement construction and earthworks. Following the award of a number of projects and frameworks, our client is looking to recruit an Assistant Quantity Surveyor for their Doncaster office. You will be supporting all buying, procurement and logistics aspects for the business throughout the UK from enquiry stage through to on time delivery of plant, resources, materials and equipment.
The Role
* Analysis of ongoing and completed works (providing feedback on projects, and analysis of costs and value etc)
* Assisting in the commercial delivery and management of contracts
* Assisting with the contract and online correspondence packages
* Using, updating and maintaining the company’s commercial management systems, and other bespoke commercial packages to capture and report financial activities of projects
* Assisting the commercial team on valuing works completed and reporting to management
* Production, submission and agreement with the client of weekly and monthly payment applications for payment
* Recording project completions
* Ensure that wages and sub-contract payments are calculated accurately and correctly
* Maintain minimum working capital for projects
* Maintain and keep up to date contract files
* Accurately record project completions from site information and system reports
* Inputting and collating weekly cost information for profit and loss reports
* Assisting in the production of month-end reconciliations (CVR’s)
* Carrying out valuation of the works
* One-off commercial exercises and analysis as required
The Person
* Ability to apply the knowledge and principles of quantity surveying to complex and challenging schemes
* Working knowledge of basic plant, equipment and materials
* Knowledge and understanding of sub-contracting principles, together with the ability to draft and administer sub contracts
* Ability to implement procedures to quantify and cost construction works, including the use of appropriate standard methods of measurement
* Proficiency in administration, communication, reporting, numeracy, IT and MS Office etc
* The ability to build effective relationships at all levels both internally and externally
* Proven ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative
* Enthusiasm and results focussed, with an ability to work well under pressure and to challenging or stringent deadlines
* Effective negotiation skills with both internal and external clients and teams
